I attempted to print a model that was to take 22g of filament. Weighed the spool, minus the Tray, cardboard, and 9g filament for the AMS path to the print head. I figured I had 22g left (clearly I was wrong).
The spool ran out on the AMS, the light for that spool feeder turned Red, but the printer kept right on printing!
It finished with about 5cm of filament in the PTFE tube at the print head. And a warning popping up in Bambu Studio that I needed to manually remove the ‘stuck’ filament. (which I did, and was fairly simple).
But…my question is: Is this expected behavior? I thought it was supposed to stop when the AMS detected that spool was empty.
I tried loading a new spool during the print, but it would not accept it: the AMS did not auto-load it.
My misunderstanding, or is this a bug?

Maybe someone else can chime but that appears to be the expected behavior. The filament runout sensor is in the toolhead, not in the AMS, which makes sense if you are using an AMS or a standalone external spool.
When using the AMS the filament passes through two filament sensors.
During a print, the first one that signals the absence of filament is the one installed in the AMS but at this point the printer continues to print normally until the filament reaches the sensor located in the print head.
At this point two things can happen…
(1) if in the AMS there is another spool with a filament equal to the previous one, the printer performs a procedure to continue printing with the second spool present…
(2) if in the AMS there is not a second spool equal to the previous one, then the printer stops and stops printing.
PS: During printing the AMS cannot load a spool of filament
This just happened to me as well. It is a bug since the latest firmware(s). Before the latest firmware, the machine would purge the remained of the filament out of the line at the end of the print. You would just add a new role when it was done and you were good to go for your next print. Now, you have to take apart the PTFE tube and get the remained of the filament out. I hope they fix this ASAP, it is really a pain. Especially since everything was working fine/as expected for well over a year for me,

This has happened to me twice in a row now. The filament gets caught, stops feeding and the printer continues printing in mid air. Surely the printer should stop until the issues is cleared.
