AMS Feed Issue

Thought I’d get some opinions on here before opening a support ticket. I purchased my P1S + AMS Combo around 3 weeks ago direct from Bambu Labs, and I’ve been enjoying it immensely. Today, however, I experienced a weird problem.

Currently, my AMS is loaded with four spools, all PLA: Black, White, Silver, and Black. The spools are all configured properly in Bambu Studio, and all four have solid white lights. The spools are Polymaker so the automatic RFID is not involved.

In all four cases, while loading up, when I inserted the filament, it pushed the filament in, then pulled it back out, ready to go. I did see the filament going from the AMS unit to the buffer on the back of the P1S.

My current print has three parts to it, and I’ve selected slots 1, 2, and 3. I do have the backup option turned on, so that once slot 1 runs out it will use slot 4.

However, when I start the print (which begins with black) it starts with slot 4 rather than slot 1. It doesn’t show any errors, slot 1 still has a solid white light, it shows as loaded in Bambu Studio, but it won’t use it. I’ve tried cancelling the print and re-inserting the filament several times (with each time it loading correctly and showing a solid white light), but no dice.

This isn’t a huge issue right now since slot 4 has the same filament, but I’m wondering if something could be wrong with slot 1. Any suggestions on what I should look at or try?

did you manually assign the filaments in the device tab of bambu studio? If not I would start there.

Yes, I did. They are all assigned properly.

Strange, have you tried hitting the filament sync button in the preview tab in studio? It sounds like its forcing a different ams slot because it doesn’t “see” the selected filament available in the slot you chose.

When you send the job to the printer did you select Spool 1 in the drop down instead of 4? With auto backup mine seems to default to Spool 4 when it is the backup and I have to manual select the spool I want it to use when I send the job.

Hi, I had the same issue with my AMS. What you need to do, is go to, synchronize filament list from AMS and then, Resync (not Sync), it will recognise the colour order, you have chosen. Hope this helps you out?

Happy Modelling!

@lindnjoe @JonRaymond @user_2886854945 Thank you all for the input. When I got up this morning, I did a resync but it still pulled from spool 4. To Jon in particular - I did not take note of that dropdown (where it says ABS A2 in your photo) before moving on to another project, so I don’t know what it said. I just know that on the object itself in Prepare mode, I definitely had Slot 1 selected. If I try this again, I will definitely take a closer look.
Once again, thank you all for the help!

I’ve been caught exactly with the problem you have and the fix was to make sure I selected the filament I wanted the print to use when I sent it.

I agree that the whole AMS/Studio thing is pretty confusing. I find the best way (for me) is to treat the filament in Bambu Studio as a “Library” instead of what is actually on the machine. Have all of your colours/types of filament in studio. They don’t have to match the location in the AMS. When you send the print to the printer it tries to match the colours/filaments you have selected in Studio with what’s in the AMS but sometimes you do have to tweak the locations in the drop down menu. This method has solved a lot of “sync” headaches for me.

I think I know the issue. In the prepare tab it numbers filaments. Those really don’t mean any thing besides a way to click on an object and hit the number of the filament you want and assign it to the object. Then after slicing when you send the print it will show what slot will be used. yours will probably be set to A4 I bet. Click on it and select the right ams slot then click send.

I got a similar issue.
I have 3 identical filaments in the AMS. Started the print by Bambu App and choosen Slot 2 (with about ½ spool in it).
The printer decided to start printing with Slot 3 instead, where a new spool is inserted.

I’m new to Bambu, so I’m still figuring it out somehow.
