What, in everybody’s experience, causes the most difficulty with non-Bambu spools. in the AMS
Spools made of cardboard irrespective of diameter, plastic spools of smaller diameter than Bambu spools, or spools of larger diameter than Bambu spools or some combination of size and material
Cardboard spools can get torn up.
Larger plastic spools mean you can’t close the lid.
Anything much larger in diameter or width won’t fit. Anything much smaller in diameter won’t sit on the drive rollers correctly. If the spool is too light, it won’t engage on the drive rollers correctly. If the spool is made of cardboard, it will shed on the rollers and cause them to slip.
Inland and MatterHacker spools are BBL size and work just fine in the AMS. I suspect there are many others. Since I bought both brands at random, the odds seem to favor it.
Bambu is plastic. If you use other plastic spools with the same diameter, there shouldn’t be any issue at all.
That’s an old post just trying to get a feel for what problems show up using non-Bambu spools.
Subsequently, I printed a filament rewinder to insure my spools are in spec.
If Bambu Lab will sell fiber reinforced refill rolls, I can put those purchased refills on my extra high temperature spools.
And this site is making me post several times before it will allow me to make my own post to ask any questions, so needless to say I have to post in order to be given the right to ask a damn question here. Beyond frustrating.
