I have both AMS units and wonder about the best nozzle assignment. 99% of my printing is single color. A recent project has 90% one color with small bits of 3 or 4 additional color accents. Is there any reason to set the AMS HT to the right or left nozzle? Currently the units are set with the HT on the left nozzle but I’m thinkiing it should be on the right nozzle as that sees less mechanical actuation when printing. Thoughts anyone?
Bambu recommends to do standard printing with the right non-lifting nozzle. The way I have it setup is AMS on right nozzle, and HT on left nozzle. With the left nozzle being tungsten and used for engineering material that are reinforced with CF/GF and for PPS/PPA that can only be printed from left nozzle due to the smoother PTFE curve.
With the PTFE tube routing in the wiki, I would say that those filaments can also go in the right extruder also.
Have not tested it though.
PPA and PPS are both restricted in slicer and firmware to left hot end. For both of those, as they are very stiff, you want to do the PTFE tube twist trick, otherwise its very easy to rip out the PTFE holder when the toolhead moves to the right. It happened to me with PPA-CF and I had to replace the dual extruder idlers, now I always do the tube twist.
It really doesn’t make a difference to the printer. It really comes down to what you print. I currently have mine with the HT on the right nozzle but was running it on the left nozzle for months before the switch. I original had it on the Left for the same reasons as maxin3D, better path for PA6-GF, but switched when I set up a better TPU bypass and the TPU feed.
I was indeed referring to the tube twist. Without that twist even the left extruder can’t do a homing sequence without breaking the PPA-CF.
I forgot about all the software (and firmware) restrictions that are in place to prevent this.
However creating a new filament and using PAHT-CF as the type and give it the correct parameters, should bypass the BS restriction. For the printer just assign PAHT-CF there also, and you are ready to go.
Then you also don’t have to switch the TPU feeder between left and right. But now I am thinking about that, I need to check if I can do the twist with the dual input option (with 2-1 adapter on the chain) for TPU one the right side.
