AMS HT only drying TPU-95

I only want to use the AMS HT to dry / temper the TPU-95a. So, no printing! Why is this not possible according to TDS? The filament spool is only inside the warm (85°C) HT housing.

Why not possible? Can you explain what isn’t working?

I have ordered the AMS HT but still waiting for it. But in the AMS HT Spec sheet below Drying there is no TPU 95 mentioned. Only the TPU for AMS.

I see, seems like an oversight in the description to me. It certainly can dry all sorts of TPU. All you need is temperature and duration. You could always set them to the recommended values manually.

In the menu, it doesn’t make a difference between different subtypes, its just TPU. Same e.g. there is just one setting for PETG, no PETG basic/HF/CF/…

Yes, maybe it’s an oversight… Or it is a physical issue. The space for the spool hight is only 68mm max. The hight /width of the spool I have messured ist 67.5 mm@ 25°C. What will happen if the drying temperature reaches 85°C? Due to the thermal expansion maybe the hot spool will jam?

That is also unlikely, the Bambu spools all have the same size.

… but with different filaments and specs. In january I will test it.

I use the Ams ht to dry tpu all the time. There is no issue.

A Bambu spool is 200mm in diameter. Width is 67.5mm or so

There is plenty of room for diameter and width of spools in the Ams ht

I dry tpu 95 all the time. No issues

Note the Ams ht will not read the RF id tag unless it is inserted into the feed mechanism. And you can’t physically feed tpu into the mechanism.

So for drying where you want the spool to rotate, you have to manually input the material for the drying profile or simply enter the desired temp and time.

a) Now I have received the AMS HT and checked the clearance, etc. Everything is OK! However, the end of the filament protrudes too far when attached to the spool (see photo).

b) Therefore, I’m looking for an adhesive tape that leaves absolutely no residue on the filament. It would be disastrous if the adhesive residue got into the PTFE tube.

Why? I just use these Filamentclips on all my spools, with these the rolls can rotate freely in every AMS …

I wouldn’t worry about residue on the filament, since you can cut off the end it. I’d rather be worried about the glue melting at high temperatures. Personally, I just leave the filament in the feeder while drying and set my AMS-HT to NOT rotate.

You can’t feed tpu and based on what I’ve seen with how the Ams ht vents are setup, you want the roll to rotate, especially at high temps because it is hotter at the vents

I use filament clips printed in polycarbonate personally instead of tape.

Or as suggested, just clip off the end with the tape.

I generally dry the roll right out of the box with the tape on, and just snip it off.
