AMS humidity

I have a new AMS, new 4 filament spool, set up everything yesterday morning closed and never opened. After more than one day the hygrometer gauge is orange and show the desiccant only with 2 lines so almost finished. How is possible ?

It can take some time for the AMS to stabilize once its been loaded. Just be patient.

Pay no attention to the hygrometer in the AMS.
Yesterday morning, mine was showing red in the handy app, after being closed for pretty much a week with professional grade desiccant. It has never been better than red. In the afternoon, I removed all the filaments to do some maintenance, so it and the desiccant was open to the air for at least an hour. I put it all back together, same dessicant, same filament and this morning it’s showing green in handy.

Some of the bells and whistles make no noise lol. Pretty decorations/selling points. I just add a hygrometer from amazon to each unit.

purchase one of the little button hygrometers on amazon or aliexpress. I just got some and compared those to my Davis Instruments weather station and they seem pretty accurate. There is a printable holder here you can print.

or here Printables

There are many out there, just remember to not put anything near the back of the hygrometer , there are some that are embedded into a Disiccant holder , but that can artificially show low results.

I can’t make heads or tails out of the tiny gauge in the slicer or on the app so I printed a holder and got one of the ubiquitous round meters. It will show 10% if I’ve loaded dry spools. Swapping in spools known to be dry will bump it up maybe 5 or 10%, it will come back down over time. I’ve never bothered to dry Overture PLA but nearly every spool from Bambu Lab has been so wet that it sends the reading up above 40% and soaks the desiccant so that even with no spools in the AMS it’s won’t come back down. The indicating beads I can dry in the microwave but the Bambu branded stuff is too much of a bother to dry so I just replace it. I now always dry any Bambu filament as soon as I receive it to keep desiccant costs down. I use a Eibos Easdry dryer for filament.

When I purchased a new AMS, the desiccant packets were in the holders, but sealed in a plastic bag. By chance, did you forget to remove the desiccant from the sealed packages. Hate to say, but I made this mistake myself

Hi, nope  but these days it’s fluctuating between green and orange …

Mine have always been green on/in Bambu Studio but I use aftermarket desiccant. And I don’t use Handy. My gauges in the AMS units always read 10-20% humidity. If you do use the printable Dryer Boxes, don’t fill the one with the gauge with desiccant or you’ll be reading the desiccant all the time. I leave the center one (with gauge) empty.

I see that Bambu now sells the desiccant bags but it’s not clear if they are reusable. Wise move but too late. I use Wisedry reusable desiccant. (bags and bulk)

With a new AMS, remove the spools and look for the two small covers with a grated pattern. Under these covers are two Desiccant Pouches. Carefully remove them and remove the outer poly bags that they are covered with.for shipping. The Pouches are white with humidity transparent plastic covers. Do not remove the contents or open these humidity pouches, only the outer poly bags should be opened… Put the Humidity packs back into the bottom wells of the AMS and replace the grated covers. If you don’t remove the outer clear poly bags the inner pouches can’t absorb the moisture in the air.

Not to be too cynical but that helps keep people buying fresh desiccant packs. Yet another reason to dry filament. I’m now doing the same - every spool dried before going into storage or AMS.

Is anyone willing to share a stp (step) CAD file for an AMS Drypods design with the round Hygrometer pocket? I have some ideas on a design, but it will be much quicker to start with known good dimensions etc. I use Catia V5 and need a stp file, not an stl file.

Welcome to the forum!! Maker Supply sells the round hygrometer and they have the step files for everything they sell. If you scroll down you’ll see the ā€œDocumentationā€ section and ā€œ3D modelā€ is right below it. Would that help?

That does help, thank you! Ideally, I’d like a 3D model of the entire canister since they are known to fit nicely in the AMS, but if I do start from scratch, this will make designing the Hygrometer pocket much easier.

You’re welcome. So I’ve never tried this before so I’m not sure how well it will work but here’s one in .STP format. I opened the STL in Fusion and exported it as a STP. I had to change the file extension to .3MF to be able to upload it here so just change it back to .STP. Here’s the model I got it from, if you need to attribute.

Hygrometer Desiccant Box Bambu AMS - Fix for Fins in Center.3mf (575.6 KB)

I was able to change your file extension to step and open that hygrometer. If you were sharing a file of the desiccant canister, I somehow missed it.
Signing off for the night, have a good one and thanks!

Sorry, I uploaded the wrong file lol. I edited my post, the actual hygrometer is attached now.

Oh Nice, I was able to open that in Catia. Thank you for being so helpful!
I’ll play with this later in the weekend.
Have a good one and thanks again!

Interestingly their product description says Humidity Measurement Range : 20 to 90%. I guess lower than that is not accurate anymore.
