Hi all,
Just encountered a new problem on my A1 AMS lite and am wondering how to fix it. Been using this machine pretty much constantly since I got it in September with no really issues, printing with almost exclusively Bambu labs PLA. On my latest print I got an error message “failed to feed the filament into the tool head”. When I investigated, I’m finding the AMS lite is struggling to feed to filament to the extruder as though it’s catching on something. The spool moves freely, however, and when I inspected the filament I found the stuff that did go in the tube looked a little rough. I cut off that section and fed the clean filament into the AMS again and had the same issue, though in the process it looks like the AMS is responsible for “chewing” up the filament in an effort to feed it to the extruder. I’ve only encountered this on the #4 reel so far but I’ll be bummed if my AMS is already struggling after less than 3 months. Anyone seen this before or know of a fix?

It reads like filament maybe stuck in the hotend
Thanks for responding. I’m not having an issue loading from other spools and can extrude other filaments though. It’s only spool 4 that seems to have an issue loading, so it seems like an AMS issue, not an extruder issue. Thoughts?
You appear to use words interchangeably.
Can we assume you mean slot 4 of the AMS lite is the one you are having trouble with?
Have you tried multiple filaments in that slot?
Is the problem when you are trying to feed the top of the filament spool into the slot or after it has made it into the inlet?
Are you sure you are not accidentally pushing it into the stupidly accessible outer ring rather than the central hole? I have to say, I have done that more than once.
Do you have the ptf tube in the correct hub slot ?
4 3
1 2
Thanks to you both. Yes, I’ve tried using different filaments in the same slot (yes, slot 4 is where the issue is). I also tried using the filament spool that initially had the problem in slot 2 and had no issue loading it there. I tried another spool in slot 4 and had the same issue. Gonna try to attach a video if that helps.
Peek thru the tiny window (there is a tiny window) of the slot 4 feed mechanisms, at the plastic (or metal?) gears specifically. See if they have filament residue inside making them too “smooth” (clogged) to grip the filament effectively?
Thanks for the suggestion (I had no idea there was that little window!). I’m not seeing anything that looks like residue but can only see one side of the mechanism… but the side I can see looks clean.
I am having a similar issue, but haven’t noticed the filament being chewed up. I’ve had the issue on both 3 and 4.
For me it seems like the filament sensor isnt detecting that the filament is being inserted and starting the extruder.
Nothing i do seems to work and the print fails… but if i simply restart the print, it works again, then fails at the same place…
I feel like this is a error in the program, not with the mechanical components. It’s a little over a year old for me and probably has around 100 hours of print time. This is the first issue I’ve had.
Sorry you’re having a similar issue. BL is shipping me a new feeder unit and linked to this article: AMS lite Feeder Unit Installation Tutorial | Bambu Lab Wiki. I haven’t received the new feeder yet but will update again if it does, in fact, solve the problem.
i currently have the same issue with my ams lite slot 4 is not working it will not feed in filament ive done everything bambu support told me to do and they have recommended the sensor need to be replaced so i going to order one and i will keep you posted if it works
Just an FYI, Bambu sent me mine for free… I didn’t have to order one myself. If this is the same issue, see if they’ll resolve it like they did for me. I took a video of the problem, which may have helped prove my case. Good luck!
There could still be something in the filament hub blocking that 4th spool
How about removing the hotend and manually feeding the filament to see if it hangs? Or swap spool position 4 on the filament hub. It doesn’t; care which spool is in which hole.
I am having the same issue from my AMS Slot 1. I tried loading from Slot 1 several times and even pushed the filament throug with no luck. It seems that it was not loading completely when I would get the error. I noticed that the error would occur before the filament was completely loaded and if I hit the retry it would load a bit more then error. This happened several times until I pushed the filament all the way into the extruder. Then it would seem to attempt to load and then the filament would back out and the error would occur. I noticed the that someone indicated that the order of the tubes into the filament head was bottom left 1, bottom right 2, upper right 3, and upper left 4. I had them backwards. I reinserted the tubes in this order and slot one on the AMS would still no load properly. I tried to srt over and just loaded filament from slot 2 on the AMS with no problem. I unloaded from slot 2 and reloaded from slot 3 with no problem and same for slot 4. It only when filament from slot 1 am I having errors. I cut filament on slot 1 at 45 degrees and tried this no luck. I pulled the filament hub and inspected for debris and found nothing. It appears there is something in wrong with slot 1 of the AMS. I am at a loss.
Did it solved it? Having the same problem right now
Just responding as it’s been a couple months since I posted this. The new feeder unit that Bambu Lab sent me solved the problem right away. It was a slight hassle to take apart the AMS and install the new part but I took my time, followed the directions, and used some common sense and it wasn’t an issue. I recommend if you’re having an issue similar to my original post, take a video of it, open a support ticket with Bambu Lab, and attach the video as evidence. Good luck!
