AMS not detected after latest update

I was sent a new AMS Main Board to swap out. I did that and the AMS worked, indicator lights and loaded the filament.

After the install I attempted to install the firmware update and it again failed at 97% so now I’m back to where I started from with a bricked AMS.

I did respond with this issue on my ticket and uploaded the updated log file. They responded that they will look at the log and get back to me.

That’s no good. Sorry things are not going well and hope you get it resolved.

I came here to say that I just did the firmware update on my AMS units and it went well. Updated both successfully first time I tried it.

So it can work and I’m sure it has for lots of people. Doesn’t fix yours though, and the occasional update issues are leaving people stranded.

This is crazy, had the same happen to me, AMS died after trying to install firmware updates. Support sent me a new motherboard for AMS unit, i was able to install it last night and do a test print. Everything worked fine until i got the message again today that there was a firmware update for both printer and AMS unit. Printer firmware update failed and now AMS unit is dead again. I know some people are saying not to upgrade but what’s the point of having a unit that can’t receive firmware updates. Now am waiting for support to reply back again.

I rather this happen now that printer is still under warranty. Would be a lot worse to have to buy new parts for something that they broke while trying to fix who knows what.

I just got a brand new XIC and after a couple of hours, and not long after an update, I could no longer see my AMS. My experience with Bambu Support has not been great. They take forever and seem to completely ignore my comments. Is it always this bad?

Seem they narrowed it down to the X1-C main board. They are sending me a replacement should have it in a few days.

I did see a post about someone having to replace the printer main board to fix their AMS issue, fingers are crossed.

As for support, I have zero issues with Bambu Labs Support. One I filled out the support ticket and uploaded photos, videos and logs they have been very responsive. The key is to be very detailed in the support ticket and send them more than what they will need. It did take about 3-4 business day to respond to the ticket after that they respond in less that 24 hours to your additional inquiries.

I was sent an AMS board and a printer main board. Did the AMS board first and exactly the same experience as yours. Did update again, failed at 97% and bricked again. Then I swapped out the main board in the printer and it brought the combo back to life. Firmware update again and no issue.

I sent a video showing that I was getting less than 4v from my X1C, it’s supposed to be around 24 right? They are sending me a new powerboard and main board of the AMS, not the X1C. I guess if this had happened after owning the printer 6 mos I wouldn’t be too upset, but I had it about 8 hours and it died on me. It’s been a huge hassle and I’m sorry to say but I just never had any issues with my Prusa so of course I’m carrying forward those expectations (and maybe I was lucky with it).

Totally depends on where you are measuring. A lot of logic is 3.3V now so less than 4V might be normal. There are probably a few different voltages at various points in the system.

To be able to get an answer if that voltage is ok or not you have to say where the measurement was taken.

Bambu uses a differential signal which they call “Bambu Bus” to communicate between the printer and AMS(s). It is similar to RS485 but uses a proprietary protocol and 24V power supply.

And communications signals are even more problematic. Regular voltmeters will just see the average value. You need something like an oscilloscope to measure the highs and lows properly. A voltmeter on a communications bus is just going to mislead generally.

I can’t share the video or screenshot but on the page about ams-power-failure (the wiki Jon shared) I’m measuring on the printer end the top two squares (ground and power). That’s why I thought it should be constant near 24v but I’m reading about 3.1v. My background is software and I’m a novice at electronics so maybe I’m totally wrong.

Why can’t I share anything? Is it because I’m new and not a trusted user?

No this is entirely wrong. It’s a reading thing actually.

Double check that you have your meter set to DC not AC.

I’m pretty sure you’re checking the wrong side/pins of the connector. The power pins are on the tab side of the connector.

Thanks. I’ll check that later when I can. I really hope I’m wrong and support is right and I can get this all working. I was so excited for the AMS and what I could do with it.

The AMS is truly a game changer. It’s unfortunate you’re having issues but once you get it sorted you’ll wonder how you functioned without it before.

I am having the same firmware issue as discussed above. I’m trying to create a support ticket as suggested but apparently you have to have a print log uploaded but I don’t use a SD Card in my printer. Any tips on how to download the log onto my computer so I can attach it to my ticket. I wish I would have read about it before installing the update.

FYI,

Bambu Labs sent me a replacement main board (printer) I just installed it and all the issues I was having are now cleared up. Both the printer and AMS are on the latest firmware.
