I’m still new to 3d printing, and yes I started with the H2D. I know it’s new, I know it may have a few quirks, but something is really irritating me.
I have 4 rolls loaded into my AMS 2, 3 Bambu, and one vendor. When I load the vendor filament, I go into the screen on the printer, hit “EDIT” on that roll, select the proper vendor, color and CONFIRM. That seems fine. However, if I power cycle this printer (turn it off at night) and turn on again, it once again “forgets” what is in slot 4. Obviously the Bambu filaments don’t do this as they are RFID tagged, but I have to manually set the filament in slot 4 EVERY SINGLE TIME. It’s getting old very quickly. I know that certain projects on Makerworld can overwrite your settings, but what I’m looking for is something that prevents my AMS settings from being constantly reset. I’ve read many posts on this, I’m an IT engineer, and I still can’t sort this out.
Is this a bug? Is this a conspiracy to use only Bambu filament? I am just trying to understand why I have to keep manually telling the printer what’s in slot 4, when I don’t change it, and I’m just getting annoyed doing it.
All three of my AMS2 PRO units occasionally forget their filaments, and what’s particularly strange is that they don’t seem to rescan them automatically. I use only Bambu Lab filament, so nearly all of them have RFID tags.
I’m not sure if this will help, since I don’t use Bambu lab filaments I have all the AMS settings turned off and only use the backup roll option. Have you tried setting up a custom filament for that roll?
My AMS pro 2 will load the custom filaments on reboot, but I did have one instance where it randomly switched one of my rolls to a generic filament
Yeah, it sounds like update is needed. If you can, consider submitting a support ticket to let them know what you found.
Thanks, I may do that. It’s hit or miss. I just turned it on now and it remembered fine. Also, I don’t like that a Bambu Slicer project can change the AMS. In my opinion, the AMS should be the source information (trusted) and never overwritten by the slicer which would also solve some of the other odd issues. Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll open a ticket.
Seeing this behavior with my P1S and AMS2, both on latest firmware. No specific filament or setting and happens after adding/changing filament on any slot. All four slots are forgotten.
Seeing error code “0300-1000-0002-0002” briefly on the printer immediately after the AMS2 forgets filament.
Thats interesting, I haven’t seen any code before mine forgets. I’ve been testing using only Bambu and so far, those are fine. It seems to happen when I use 3rd party filament so seems a little curious to me to say the least. Is yours doing that with Bambu filament or any?
I’ve now got an AMS HT and it does the same thing. I put a roll of 3rd party in it, set it up at the control panel, specify the vendor, material, etc and CONFIRM. It appears on the screen of the printer as present. I can literally not even open bambu studio, the handy app, nothing. I turn the printer off and back on, and now my AMS HT shows its “??” and doesn’t know what the filament is. This happens in my AMS PRO 2 as well. I’m getting prettty annoyed having to keep telling my printer what filament is in there, as far as I’m concerned, once I set it up in the control panel and hit CONFIRM it should not change unless its an RFID tag filament. This seems like a very annoying issue, @SupportAssistant. I’ve opened a ticket on it.
This seems simple to me if I am understanding correctly. You keep turning the printer off at the plug of course it’s going to forget the custom filament settings.
Why shut it off at the plug instead of letting it go to sleep mode and stay idle? Is it an electricity thing? You can into settings and adjust your sleep time there.
If you are going to keep shutting it off you should unplug it too just to make sure the transformer isn’t taking any power too far? I’m sorry lol couldn’t help myself, my father used to unplug everything to save a buck…
I do not unplug it, so I’m not sure where you got that. I just turn the printer off using its normal power switch on the back. I’ve seen this issue in some of the FB forums also, so I know it’s not just me. The printer doesn’t always “remember” what the AMS settings are. This seems unusual, am I expected to “program the filament” at the control panel after every regular power cycle? I know some of you leave your printers on 24hrs a day, but I don’t print to it every day and even when “sleeping” its consuming power. I don’t feel that turning it “OFF” should cause lose of programmed settings, it’s not losing power. This appears to be a bug. I’m an IT engineer, much like my routers don’t “forget” settings and my TV doesn’t “forget” settings just by turning it off, I would expect a $2K device to remember the filament in the AMS. Also, I’ve seen it (at times) forget filament while the printer is just on and IDLE. I’ll set the filament up, walk off for a minute, come back and check and it’s just gone. This is not normal behavior.
Update: After working with Bambu, it was determined that my filament presets weren’t properly syncing to the cloud. I took screenshots of my settings, deleted the filaments, re-created them and then I logged out of my printer, rebind (bound?) the printer using the QR code in my handy app and once I did that, they resynced to my printer and I could select them again. After this process, it has not forgotten anything since. I did ask them if there’s an easier way to force a sync (other than logging out my printer and logging it back in) but support didn’t answer that. That said, it’s working, so I’m happy. While I would expect them to just sync after adding in Bambu studio, it doesn’t seem to do that consistently (at least for me), your mileage may vary.
Were you purely entering in your filaments from BS or also manually on the printer? Curious that the cloud needs to be involved at all, since if I’m in LAN-only mode, I would expect the data to be saved and maintained on the printer itself…
