AMS Resistance too high fixes

I’m having a constant warning regarding the filament resistance being too high with any AMS 2 Pro slot or my AMS HT.

  • I changed the PTFE tubes
  • Removed the FTS (filament tracker switch)
  • Printed PTFE * clips
  • Printed PTFE * head angle
  • Reoriented the PTFE tubes multiple times in the back
  • Removed any 90 degree angle
  • Used Bambulab filament with Bambulab spool, new, dried, etc.
  • Used other filament brand
  • Any combination of the above

I have no clue how to fix that.

Used to have these as well. Did some adjusting of the PTFE tubing to make the curves less gradual. Seemed the make the problem more random than happening “most” of the time.

But since the last firmware update released a few days ago, it seems this resistance value has been changed and haven’t seen the error again.

If you haven’t lately, please power down the machine with the power button, restart it, and you may have a new firmware update to install.

Will probably fix it I’m guessing.

Don’t forget to recalibrate everything afterwards.

I’ve had a ticket with Bambu open for this issue since I bought my X2D back in April. At first I thought it was an issue with the AMS, so Bambu sent me a replacement hub. Now the filament is reaching the tool head just fine, but doesn’t actually load successfully. I’ve found that cutting off a few inches of filament and trying to print again seems to have a high degree of success, so now they want me to replace the filament cutter for the main nozzle.

Super annoying problem to have (especially with multi-color prints where multiple spools are loading and unloading frequently), so I’m hoping this fixes the problem.

Also - the updated firmware didn’t fix my problem either.

Something else to look for. If you look at the left (main) nozzle PTFE tubing as it’s sitting near the nozzle cleaner at rest, the PTFE tube is so far extended mine was hanging clear out in front of the tool head. So the filament had to do another extreme angle right before the extruder.

All I did was place the tool head at the extremes (in front corners) and shortened the PTFE on the left nozzle enough to where there was still plenty of slack to reach the edges of the bed plate. I think I ended up removing around an 1" or so.

May not fix your problem, but anything you can do to clean up that filament path has to help with the problem you are having.

Might be worth looking at.

Appreciate the insight - I’ll take a look at that after my print is done later today and check mine. It’s so strange because there are times when it works without issue and then other times when it just bombs out every time I try to load anything. And it doesn’t matter what slot either as I’ve had the same problem on all of them now at this point, so I’m starting to think that the issue isn’t with the AMS at all anymore.

I totally understand! This is my first printer from BL that has this build size / print area, so hearing the AMS struggle the first time I used it was a completely new experience. I have a fleet of H2 machines and AMS loads into those SUPER FAST and without struggle.

Every AMS load into the X2D seems like a huge strugglebus in comparison. I just had another poster confirm to me that’s how all the smaller build machines are with AMS, which makes sense as they have almost the same exact path to the same buffer etc.

So looked for ways to help that, and that tubing to the left nozzle hanging way forward of the toolhead was a big nono. I also put a new piece of PTFE tubing into the buffer to internal feeding section as it looked like the factory piece was too short. I’d rather have a longer more gradual path than extreme angles that are shorter.

It definitely did help on the amount of resistence errors, and they seem to have gone away now all together across 4 different X2D’s. So I’m betting something in the firmware toned down the default value of the error as well as I used to get them randomly. Now it hasn’t happened since the last firmware update.

I had the same issue. Positioning of the PTFE tube inside the FTS seems not very precise. Deburring the ends of the tubes using a 2,5mm center drill (by hand) solved this issue.

Do you have 4-in-1 mergers in the lines? Try moving them as close as possible to the AMS units. Any high friction section of tube is better to have near the AMS units rather than the printer.

Yes, the tip is 2,5mm and fits into the tube. So the cutting edge can deburr the tube.

I have had many (many) issues with the filament being twisted inside the spool. I finally tossed several rolls because of this. In fact, the last slot in my AMS has worn down the rollers and won’t work with a partial roll now because of that. I think it is an issue with the replacement rolls that come without a new spool.

Just uploaded new update and mine still does not get to the toolhead.

How far does it go? Past the buffer to inside? Or??

I don’t know why people never complained about the P2S / X1 etc., as my understanding is they are basically close to the same filament path and buffer location.

Wonder what’s different in the X2D vs those other models to make this so touchy.

an update on this one: I kept getting issues on my AMS 2 and my AMS HT, but with external spool there was no issue. I did an entire maintenance on both units and changed all PTFE tubes, still nothing.

After a few chats with Bambu Support team, they sent me a new buffer to replace the current one. It arrived yesterday, I’ll install it tonight and keep you all posted.

Interesting! I’m sure a bunch of people are waiting to hear this feedback. I don’t have loading errors. Used to get warnings. But it sure does struggle.

Be interesting to see if this fixes the issue, if the buffer has been updated / a bad batch on certain ones, or if this is just them appeasing you and throwing parts at it lol.

I wouldn’t mind having extra parts for free hahaha but I truly hope this is the final solution

Please do update. I have an XiC and the filament gets to about 4 inches past the buffer and stops no matter what spool location.

Is this an AMS 2 Pro that is giving you problems?
