To my knowledge the AMS 2 Pro doesnt automatically re-read spools when said spool is inserted mid print (to replace a spool that ran out) like the AMS1 does. EXAMPLE I have my P1S running one AMS1 and one AMS2 as well as my P2S running an AMS2. Both machines are set to read the spools when they are inserted. As I understand it cannot do this while mid print I noticed after my print the AMS1 on my P1S will automatically spin the spool and re-read it but with the AMS2 (on both machines) it remains a “?” until I either select to re-read the spool from the menu or remove/re-insert the spool.
Perhaps I’m missing something, but this was a nice convenience function within the AMS1 I’m not sure why the 2 doesnt have.
Yeah, after the print my AMS1 will automatically reread the spool without me having to do anything and set it, but with my AMS2’s theres no information after the print unless I select to re-read the spool or pull the filament out and feed it back in. Hopefully they keep making the AMS1’s cuz honestly i kinda like them better. Sure, keep a couple AMS2’s to dry filament, the stronger motors and exposed tubes for fixing clogs is nice but I find I have less issues with my AMS1’s. I also like the slow pulsing light of the active slot as opposed to the solid light. In any case, this is just something I’ve been wondering (about the re-reading thing) so I figured i’d make this post about it and find out if I was just missing an option to set it to reread automatically. Guess you can’t.
Interesting. I think my AMS is up to date but my P1P and P1S that they are on are still on the firmware previous to the security update. I’ll have to double check, I can’t remember if mine are on read at start up or at insertion. I’m looking at a photo showing the option for insertion and it says “If spool is inserted during printing it will not read any info until the print has finished” so maybe mine are on, “Update on startup” so maybe thats why? I’ll check when I return to my printers and see if maybe thats what it need to be on, otherwise it wont update it unless you power cycle the printer?
I just looked, its set to read on insertion. Weird thing is my P1P has one AMS1 and AMS2 on it, and the AMS1 re-reads it automatically where as the AMS2 does not. Seems like they didnt put the auto re-read functionality in to the AMS2? Thats pretty stupid lol
My older printers (pre-H series) are still on pre-security lock down firmware but I noticed this with my H2D, P2S (current firmware) that even though the AMS2 settings are set to re-read on installation of spool (not read on start up), if my spool runs out during a print and I insert a fresh one it will not read the spool until I manually make it after the print is done. On my AMS1s this is not the case, ill hear the spool automatically spin after the print is done if I’ve swapped it during the print and it will read it. I dont understand why the AMS2 makes you manually have to re-read the spool after the print when the AMS1 didnt. Seems like an oversight.
