I got a P1S for home recently - Is there any benefit to adding the hub/buffer even if I’m not using an AMS with it?
I get the buffer is to stop ware/constant movement in the AMS, but are there any other benefits?
I have… uh, 9 spare buffers and cables (a lot of replacing with the 4 port hubs on X1Cs)
Nope!
The buffer/hub is to assist the extruder, relax the load on the extruder. When AMS in used, there are too many turns in the teflon tube pathway, plus accounting for the natural shape of the filament (like a coil), the friction on the filament pathway from AMS to the extruder is too much for the extruder motor alone. Hence, the genius idea of using buffer to release the load on the extruder motor.
Using standalone spool on the back or from drybox sitting aside is short enough so that there is much less friction on the filament pathway.
