After setting up the H2D w/ AMS, the second feed was feeling lonely with a fully exposed roll. Decided to pull the trigger on another AMS unit, purely because I don’t want to wait until tariffs potentially jack the prices up.
Best rule I follow for technology based purchases is buy what you need when you need it. Stockpiling tech that becomes obsolete or irrelevant in 5 years is always a loss.
Obviously if you wanted one anyway then might as well buy it now to avoid the fees. Still no clear delineation on how or what exactly gets chosen for tariffs. If shipped direct to consumer it might bypass the tariffs.
Definitely don’t buy for the sake of buying, but there’s nothing wrong buying something you want now, instead of waiting for a “Better price” or other reasons. But that is predicated on there being a desire for it. Its your money, as long as you can use the product and you feel the value is there, go for it. You don’t have to truly need it.
The AMS is going up by more than $100, so save that if you plan on getting another in the future. I plan on getting an HT, but it will see a bump in price so there’s no rush.
So the primary driver was the fact that there are two nozzles, and only 1 AMS. Feels like the other side really needs one too. For multiple reasons, I’d prefer I don’t just have rolls of filament out in the open. Second AMS will allow for more flexibility, keep the rolls clean/dry, and minimize my need to manually swap out rolls.
So I knew I would get it at some point, but with tariffs on the horizon, decided to pull the trigger now.
Still need to get the AMS HT, whenever that gets released.
IMO, not even a little bit. Personally, I hate the slow printing of multiple colors. I’m finding having a single filament attached to the second nozzle works great. For me, the second nozzle is a dedicated TPU nozzle. The HT will be perfect for me, but I have no issue with my PolyDryer box.
I’ll start playing around with TPU once I get the AMS HT. I’ll also probably go with that “mod” that someone did of running a dedicated PFTE tube through the air hole and have a holder at the head for quick swaps.
Too bad that patented device didn’t come out yet to direct between the two nozzles. Would be nice if any of the rolls could go to any of the nozzles, rather than each nozzle being limited to the a single set.
For instance, having all PLA in one AMS and all PETG in another, but still being able to use both nozzles without moving spools around.
I’m betting these outrageously high tariffs won’t last.
Trump is just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. This isn’t going to work out the way he’s hoping it will. He’ll swerve in some other direction at some point in the not too distant future.
No doubt, but tariffs come up, prices go up, tariffs go away, and prices take a while to drop back down, if ever. Won’t get into politics beyond just talking about the impact of these tariffs here, but I’m sure there are plenty of theories on what the long-term plan is.
It’s too late for most items on Amazon. I’ve already seen filament prices climb 25–30% on the brands I previously bought. Spools that cost $10–$11 are now over $13. Fortunately, I’ve got enough filament to last a couple months for what I print most. I suspect competitive pressures will reshape the ecosystem. For example, my own company is already shifting shipments to the U.S. from factories in countries with more favorable COO tariffs.
I expect a broader rebalancing of COOs. If countries like Brazil realize they can gain market share by relaxing tariffs, it’s only a matter of time before others—Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan—adjust their strategies to gain advantage. Then again, who knows? Some countries have cornered themselves with nationalist rhetoric aimed at their voter base. Meanwhile, others like South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam have stayed quiet, giving their politicians room to cut quiet deals without losing face.
Just finished reading an article published today on BBC news (with similar counterparts from various newspapers in the EU and Far East) quoting reactions and statements from the leaders of most of the countries you’ve just mentioned, that although very circumspect on what they were saying, the main and most common reaction could be summarized in one word: “retaliation”
My question is will they hit me with a 1.5k charge for tariffs for my laser version since it hasn’t shipped yet? If so I might not want it any more @BambuLab / @SupportAssistant ?
I’ve been thinking the same. Nathan Builds brought up a good point on the total cost, he mentioned Bambu will have to pay the tariff based on the declared value (wholesale or maybe even cost). So, it’s possible the total tariff will be significantly less than the MSRP value tariff. That said, I assume this is why Bambu doesn’t allow endless preorders, and they stop accepting orders until they are back in stock.
I’m not sure what their plan is, but I’d imagine they could really see a cooling of demand if the price jumps by the full tariff amount.
Any chance you think they moved some in to the country before the tariffs though? I’m ordering my laser version when sales open back up but I wont be if the cost if above what my cart said in the initial presale
I’m having a hard time keeping up. I believe there is a pre-existing tariff in the system and already is built into the cost on Bambu’s site (as of a month or so back). I think the 10% blanket tariffs go into effect tomorrow. But the remaining portion of the 34% (an additional 24%) go in on the 9th. A mess.
So… do I think they are already in country, can’t say. They were expecting to reopen sales on the 8th so it is possible they will be in prior to that, which would be good to avoid the large tariff.
