Anyone else running into this eSun issue?

I have 2 spools of PLA Pro that were recently purchased and both have the same problems. They were both bought within the last 5 weeks The spools were different colors. Once about 40% to 60% of the spool is used the filament starts jamming because the windings along the side are buried 2 to 3 levels below the outer winding on the spool. And it got worse the more filament I used.

I bought one spool from Amazon, and it was new enough I was able to send it back and get a refund. The jam happened 3 times and caused the prints to fail, wasting the filament already used.

Pulling on the filament that jammed last night by hand, it is very difficult to unwind because of the winding problem I described. You should see the kinks in it. I have a used spool with no filament, so I’m going to have to wind the remaining filament onto the used spool as even my sloppy hand winding is better than the machine winding.

I’ve had no problems with any other brand of filament, just eSun. And I use their filament because I’ve never had a problem with it in 4 years. I have a spool of white PLA + that is over a year old and it has no problems with the filament winding and I’ve used almost 80% of it. So this appears to be a recent issue. I finished 2 other eSun spools I had with no issues on my P1S.

The jamming is not only ruining the prints but I’m worried it may lead to extruder issues from clogging it with ground pieces of filament.

Since I’ve never had issues with eSun, I was curious if anyone else has recently purchased filaments that did this.

Did send an email to their tech support suggesting they look into this.

Yes! I’ve had the same problem with eSun. Poorly wound about every 10th or so spool I used. Bad enough that I switched vendors. No problem since.

Good, so it’s not just me. So far the Voxelabs PLA Pro (from Flashforge, different than VoxelPLA), has been wonderful. Works just as good as the Bambu Basic. It runs perfect using the BambuLab PLA Tough preset. Just not as many color choices. Their ABS has worked well, just a problem with drooping when bridging, but to be fair, I haven’t run a temperature tower test or flow calibration on it yet. Nice thing was no warpage on a 7 inch long object.

Now that I got my reusable spool issues straightened out, I can start using the BL PLA basic refills I have. That gives me way more color choices.

I never had problems with windings from esun PLA+. But i did have problems with filament breaking in the extruder. Went to polymaker and problems gone.

Yes! I’ve had the same problem. I ordered a new roll and it had the same problem. PLA+.

Year is 2024 and this is still happening.

I have recently started on my 3D printing journey and using eSUN PLA+ filaments. When it gets to below 50% it randomly jams. I just need to rotate the spool a little which fixes the issue but it is super annoying that I have to clear the messages on the printer and push the filament to extrude.

I guess I need to find a different vendor.

December 2024 and this problem is happening to me at this moment with my black esun spool That is just about halfway used up

I’ve had this happen on at least 4 eSUN PLA+ spools in the last couple of weeks, and when it does my X1 Carbon fails to notice the jam and keeps on printing air thus ruining the print. Shouldn’t the filament run-out sensor notice this? Since cardboard spools are not recommended for use in the AMS I run them externally.
