Anyone tried Testor paints, enamel or acrylic on PETG?

Wanting top print this: Lunch atop a shelf (StarWars Troopers) - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld but not wanting to waste a ton of filament so wanted just to paint the areas needing black as well as the bottles and “iPad.”

Spent time researching which paints to use on PETG. Google Ai assured me after much back and forth I needed Testors enamel paints. Thought after of double checking b/c Google AI has been giving me a lot of false info lately. Sure enough Claude searched the web and said they will not work.

So much for AI. Now…can anyone tell me what they have successfully painted small highlights on PETG with? the details are too smal to sand/prep etc. They won’t be handled. Some people say enamel sticks. Some people say acrylic (but not water based and Testors are oil based acrylic).

I saw one site say Revell enamels work. But if them, why not Testors enamel ones?

Everything is much simpler… Use a primer.

And then you can paint it with whatever your heart desires.

Here’s a white PETG after priming gray.

This can be painted however you want.

However … printing miniatures with PETG… that’s a quite an ooomf level of masochism.

If you can’t find much results with a direct Google search, it means ■■■■■■ chatbots also have no knowledge to work with, which means they can only make ■■■■ up. This applies to almost all craft related inquiries, even mature technologies 30 years old because manufacturers usually don’t disclose every possible imaginary questions with a yew or no on public web pages lol.

Why are you printing miniatures in petg?

Any scale model paint will work but you need primer on the surface first.

Enamels have a long drying time and require oils to clean the brush. Almost everyone now uses water based acrylics except for highly skilled artists who need enamel or oil for competition-level colour blends or washes (and even then it’s a stylistic choice, acrylics can do the job)
