I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this god forsaken Mako hot end. They announced very early in the year, took orders and said it would be shipping by Aug 15. It turns out they were still designing it in August and hadn’t even put it through full testing. Since then they have blown at least 3 deadlines, gone through multiple redesigns and currently won’t give an estimate on shipping (which is actually the first smart thing they have done regarding this hot end).
I am really tired of waiting and about to ask for a refund and get the Revo.
My initial hopes were that it would beat out the Revo, however I recall one of Slice’s updates claiming they reached between 30-40mm/s (I think) flow rate during testing. I don’t recall exact numbers, I just remember thinking it was about the same numbers as the Revo Hotend.
Has anyone used it or know anything that might convince me to not cancel my order? Plainly does anyone know the FR of the Mako - if we ever even see this hot end before BBL flagship ships next year?
Get your refund fast, as long as they still have the money to do it. Then, once you get your money back, think twice before throwing them out the window again.
I appreciated the transparency when they announced in detail that they had an engineering issue caused by a change they made.
They reached out and asked if i wanted to wait for the next batch or received one of the ones they had already manufactured. I opted for what they already had and have one running on an X1C as a test bed.
So far its working but have not pushed any limits yet.
I appreciated it also except… I don’t know what else they could have done considering there was no realm of possibility in which the hot end could have possibly released on Aug 15 and at the time, it was already their 2nd blown deadline. While they were specifically vague in that video, separately they did provide another shipping deadline and obviously blew that promise and multiple others.
They actually emailed you to ask if you wanted the existing one? Interesting, you must be important. I was an early purchaser (early-mid July) and haven’t really received any unprompted emails from them. I send them emails at each of the self-imposed (and missed) ship dates but each time is a new story.
Did they offer a discount at least on the defective unit?
So is there any chance you might do a flow rate test on it to get an idea of the real speeds on it? It’s a few clicks in Orca Slicer if you haven’t done one before.
Absolutely, just have to get production things rolling and then I’ll probably start by tuning black and white pla and then do some translucent petgs since the appearance on those are vol speed impacted alot.
There was a message from Oct16 timeframe that I think went out to a list of people that I assume was a pre order list.
No discount offered or asked for. I’m ok with that and thinking that the solution to the BL revo hot end heat creep (sp?) issue likely keeps me clear of creep issues on the Mako. Its a fan duct that keeps the hot air from the heated bed from being used for cooling the pre heat break area.
I’ll post here when I get a change to run the calibrations.
Interesting, so you had trouble with heat creep with Revo, that’s mainly a PLA issue right? I mostly print Petg, asa nylon etc. and don’t think I’ve ever experienced that issue. Though recently picked up PLA Pro and probably will switch to that from Petg as I get really bad stringing that ruins prints with Petg.
I was an early preorder and didn’t see that email. But I did email them and they said they wouldn’t recommend taking the version with heat sink issues specifically because of heat creep (at least that’s how I interpreted it) - noting that they don’t recommend it for PLA.
Keep me updated if you end up testing the hot end out. Eager to make a decision on it. Thanks.
