Is anyone using the A1 (not-mini) in lower temperatures? Lower being 15–17°C / 59–62°F? And if so have you found any ill effect on any of your prints or had difficulties with particular filament?
The FAQ states “The ambient temperature of our printer is 10-30 degrees Celsius.” but doesn’t say which ones.
I’d hoped to put the A1 in a small windowless cupboard (0.8x0.8x2.5m approx) but it stays pretty cool in there, avg 16°C the last week, 65–70% humidity. It’s not draughty, just cool. I know I’ll need to keep on top of drying filament with that humidity. I’m looking to use PLA(+) and PETG mainly but TPU occasionally.
I’ve seen advice to avoid “draughts and cool air” to prevent uneven cooling that’s caused warping, but I’m not too clear if cool ambient without draughts has a similar detrimental effect.
I’d happily spend a bit more to get the P1S, but I don’t think I could put up with the noise of the enclosure fans.
Cool ambient air is fine. I don’t think you’ll need to worry about warping with PETG. And certainly not PLA or TPU.
But the P1S is likely a better printer if you ever think you may want to print other materials which need an enclosed machine. The only time it’s really loud is when printing with the part cooling fan on high, which is unfortunately when printing PLA and PETG. You don’t need the auxiliary fan or the chamber fan. And you can use a noctua for the motherboard fan if it becomes annoying. But overall, with the new active noise cancelling, it’s not a very loud machine. I print a lot of ABS which uses very little part cooling and I set my chamber and scrubber (repurposed aux fan) to 40% and it’s very quiet.
Thanks! Good to know cold ambient is ok. I suppose if anything it just means the heatbed has to work a bit harder.
That’s interesting about the aux & chamber fans on the P1S, I’ve read a lot of conflicting advice about turning them off/lowering them for PLA along with door open/closed, roof propped open etc. plus everyone’s environment is going to differ. A lot of variables, I suppose, difficult to know what’d combination would work best for me.
Mine is in a relatively cool room (about 14-15 degrees Celsius) and has a slight draft. Prints very well despite that, though I only print PLA. Don’t know how it would affect other materials.
Hallo, mein A1 steht im Moment bei ca. 16-18°, auch bei leichter Zugluft.
Beim Bambu PLA absolut kein Problem. Bei anderen Anbietern scheint es hin und wieder Probleme zu geben…
