I know make does some internal resizing, but what size images do you guys mostly use that works best?
I use 4:3, and I never provide a mobile-specific image.
4032x3024 - because my phone camera photos come out as that, so I maintain it.
My animated GIFs are 600x450.
For MW website: 1024 x 768 px. If using Canva, this is Presentation (4:3)
For Handy app: 768 x 1024 px
I also use 4:3 - my camera outputs at 4000x3008 and these have worked perfectly for MW
Does loading large such image effect much? i know nice to get large picture when viewing.
ty, do you load different image for handy app?
I think MW scales down large files when loading. But I havent found definitive info on this. I always edited my photo anyway, that’s when I resize it to what I specify above. I believe for photos on a web page or phone screen, these sizes are sufficient.
For newer uploads, I do try to take a separate photo in the 3:4 ratio and resize it to 768x1024 px for the Handy app. I use iphone camera so this simply means holding the phone in its usual vertical orientaion and take the photo in 4:3.
For older photos, I tried to adjust them into 4:3 and 3:4 for the web and the Handy app respectively, but it doesn’t always work well.
It hasn’t for me.
Some of my models have 20 images and some with multiple animated GIFs, each between 15mb and 30mb.
It depends on the framing you want. Take pictures and crop accordingly. Set your aspect ratio for what will give you the best framing after the crop (if you choose to crop it).
Now that it is 2025 and MW seems to have changed a bit, what sizes work well in the image uploads?
I am finding that I have a rectangular picture (a simple 60mm long label) that I cannot fit within the box that appears when the image is uploaded, even if I take it into Paint and resize it 50% multiple times, it is still to wide for the view box.
Currently I have it at 1400 wide by 600 high, even if I take it to 1/4 that size it still appears the same (too big) in the preview window?
MakerWorld images should be at a 4:3 ratio to display well without cropping. Because a ratio is used, scaling the image proportionally will not help it to fit within the required space. Instead, crop your image before uploading to any 4:3 resolution such as 1600x1200.
Then the image will not be complete?
It’s a horizontal rectangle.
I may not be understanding your question. If the issue is that parts of your object are being cropped out, my recommendation would be to photograph the item with lots of space around it and the crop it to a 4:3 ratio so that it takes up as much of the frame as possible.
There will be ‘empty’ space on the sides but this will prevent the object from getting cut off.
MakerWorld supports horizontal and vertical (on mobile) crops of images so you can upload both.
Here’s an example of a skinny object that I’m cropping to fit a 4:3 ratio - just using the crop tools in the photos app on my phone:
Here’s a horizontal version.
If you’d like the share the image you are trying to work with, I’d be happy to provide ideas.
Not sure if it will help but I use Canva (free) to make the cover photos for my uploads. The presentation size is 4:3 and TikTik Photo is 3:4 and then add my photos onto a plain coloured background.
