Autorefill with AMS Lite didn't switch spools

I started a 14 hour print on my A1 with the AMS Lite this morning. I knew that the current spool of Bambu BlueGrey PLA Basic (currently loaded on the #4 spool) didn’t have enough filament to complete the job, so I unboxed my backup spool of Bambu BlueGrey PLA Basic and loaded it in on the #3 spool of the AMS Lite. Having heard that the AMS Lite will switch to spool #3 when spool #4 runs out since they are identical filament/spools, I figured I was ready to print. I even checked to make sure the “AMS Auto-Refill” setting was checked on the phone app. So I now have 2 spools of the same filament, manufacturer, and color loaded. After slicing the print, I sent it to the printer selecting the #4 spool as the main color. When I selected the #4 spool, I could see that the #3 spool had the same color shown. Everything seemed good so I headed off to work. Unfortunately, after 5 hours of the 14 hour print, I got a message from the app saying “AMS A Slot4 filament has run out; please insert a new filament”. I was given the option to tell it the issue was fixed and it could continue. Thinking I needed to select this option to have it automatically pick the #3 spool automatically, I did. A few seconds later, I got the same message that it was out of filament. Looks like the auto-refill didn’t work. Any ideas of what I’m missing or does auto-refill just not work?

Very bummed that this print won’t be done until tomorrow instead of late tonight. :frowning:

Welcome to the forum.

When you send the print you can check to see that the auto fill is setup correct.

You can verify what slot is set for backup by clicking on the “Auto Refill” text.

It’s not the end of the world. You should be able to continue the print when you get home and are able to physically move the filmanet over to the current slot.

Thanks for the info Jon. I’ll definitely look into that with the next print I do.

Number 1
The first part of your description implies you had slot 4 filled started the print and then added a duplicate filament to slot 3.

Number 2
The second part makes it look like you started the print after you two identical filaments to slots 3 & 4.

If you did number 1 it WOULD NOT work, and you would need to manually swap filament into the empty slot 4 when it runs out.

If you did number 2 it WOULD work provided auto refill was enabled and you confirmed that the printer knew the filaments matched as Jon said.

The AMS and the AMS lite both perform the same way.

Check twice, and print once.

I say this as I am printing twice after checking once (different issue).

Sorry for the confusion. The situation was/is number 2. Both slots 3 and 4 have the same filaments in it and were loaded before the start of the print. From what Jon and you mentioned, it sounds like I don’t have all the correct setting in the auto refill.

Thanks for the reply.
