Any way to tell the AUX fan not to run when you send a print job to the X1 Carbon. I know I can create a customized filament setting but was hoping for a simple switch to turn it off before or after I send the print job to the printer. When I go into DEVICE tab in Studio after I send the file and the printer starts bed leveling, calibrating, etc, I see the AUX fan running around 40%. I turn it off, and it comes back on. Only when the actual file starts printing I can switch it off and it stays off for the duration of the print. Is this the only way to turn it off or is there a simpler way?
or is there a simpler way?
Reach in to the machine and jam a piece of scrap filament in to the fan blades?
The “switch” is in the software, and the filament cooling parameters are where the switch control is located. Change your filament profile once, never have to worry about it again. It’s not like it takes any meaningful amount of time to make the change… less time than it takes to go to the device tab and shut it off, by far, especially when you add up the time it takes each time you run a print vs. “one and done” with the filament parameter.
So, its only doable via Filament Settings? Thats really awkward. I also want to reduce it for all PLA.In a single Color its easy, I just turn it off after the start.
In general it would be better.
As above, the Aux is easiest managed in the Filament setting, its a pain but some prints it can be helpful with overhangs/small layer times. The fan will also come on in the purge/nozzle clean preamble for a reason, thats best left alone (its in the Start gcode).
The Aux Fan is useless, it always messes everything up and I constantly have to turn it off, as it finds a way to turn back on. I never use it for anything, I am going to hardwire an on/off toggle switch for it as it is stupid to have to edit it in filament settings as I use so many different kinds I don’t have time or the memory to change every time!!! If you haven’t already, and I apologize if you have tried this but I have an X1C and my Aux fan is turned off through the filament profiles. Turning it off there insures that when I print with that filament it never turns on. And I agree with you, the Aux fan is ■■■■and I don’t use it on PLA, PLA+, PETG, and my prints come out good.
I missed this tab for some reason.
As I have several different types of filament I use in the AMS (X1C) I have set up alternative copies of the filament profiles that all have the AUX fan turned off. This works fine but is a bit of a pain as whenever I resync Bambu studio with my AMS it will always change to the default filament profile and then I have to go back to switch to my alternate.
Much better would be a way to either change the setting of the default profiles or allow the user to specify which profile to use as the default to resync too.
I also notice into settings on the printer there seems to be a setting to say if the fan is installed and wondered if turning that off would have the desired effect as 99% of my prinitng is PLA+ and therefore do not require the fan.
“The Aux Fan is useless”
THIS. Nothing good has ever happened with the Aux Fan. It’s responsible for more warped, and failed prints than I care to admit. The problem with turning it off in the filament profile is that that doesn’t always work. In certain circumstances it seems to finds a way to come back on. Frankly, I’d like to just unplug it! Or, maybe wire an on/off switch into the circuit. What good is it? Seriously. I’d like to know.
I use it to cycle air over the heated bed to heat up the chamber before starting ABS/ASA print. Works great for that. I also don’t use it any other time.
Welcome to the forum.
Custom profiles are all well and good but as the AMS uses the the default profiles it is tedious to have to change. Need to be able to make a change to the DEFAULT PLA/PETG settings. I had a look at the system files but can’t see anything there about the aux and chamber fan
EDIT…
There is a setting in the file “fdm_filament_pla.json”
“additional_cooling_fan_speed”: [
“70”
],
Maybe changing that to “0” will do the trick for ONE of the fans
I’ve had prints warp off of the bed in that corner a lot, but I print so infrequently that I always forget. One that had no problem adhering was a small desk organizer, but I wanted to share the other kind of stuff that fan can do. The rest of the print was perfect … well nevermind that I ran out of grey faster than I thought I was.
I’ve had this printer for two years, but I use it infrequently due to … well I’ll just blame it on my really bad ADHD. I’m going around forums and such now trying to figure out all the funky stuff, tips, tricks, and the usual problems/fixes. I do wish it was easier to turn off the Aux fan, but at least there IS a way.
