.avi Video Viewer

My P1S stores its video files in .avi format. I can then move them to my PC to view them later. Unfortunately, when you go to view those files on your PC, they zip by so fast that you can’t see any detail.

I tried a couple of video viewer apps and can slow them down, but didn’t find one that really helped. Yes, many of them can slow down the video. But I want to be able to see it frame-by-frame so that I can see exactly when my print went bad.

Is there a video viewer app you can recommend that allows you to view an .avi file frame-by-frame? It does not have to be Free, but hopefully not too expensive.

It’s not one I have used but I have seen suggestions (other places, not BBL) that potplayer may do what you are trying to accomplish.

VLC (from videolan.org) will let you step through a video one frame at a time, using the ‘e’ key (by default). Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have a similar option to step back one frame - not completely surprising due to the way most digital video formats work (they are only designed to play forwards). But Shift + Left will do a “small reverse” which might help.

If you need the ability to step back one frame at a time, then loading the avi into almost any video editor might be the easiest way.

I’ve used a few players for AVI files, and PotPlayer does work fine, though it can be a bit overwhelming with all the settings and codec options. If you’re mainly just trying to play AVI files, I usually prefer VLC, super simple and no fuss with extra downloads. But if you’re thinking about editing the files after viewing, then you’d probably need more than just a player.
