Hi,
after the Flow Dynamics Calibration, the results are saved as PA profiles on the printer.
Is there a possibility to create a backup of the PA profiles? After a factory reset, all profiles are deleted and have to be created again.
In the bowels of the .JSON files you can try and dig them out or I keep a physical and digital notebook because when there’s an update guess what happens, and it sucks
But notes don’t help you much with the X1C, because you need the PA profile files, and you can’t create them manually. You can’t manually enter the values for the X1C in Bambu Studio like you can with the P1P/P1S.
Since you can edit and delete the PA files in Bambu Studio, a backup should be possible somehow.
I have just opened a ticket at Bambu Lab on the subject. I’m curious what they’ll write about it.
If you don’t need the Makerworld access from the slicer, just use OrcaSlicer. I cannot think of any other Studio feature that is not in the current Orca version.
OrcaSlicer calibration results can be entered/edited/saved with the filament profile on your computer.
The filament profiles are store on the computer in : C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\user\4107096752\filament
If you want to save them, just copy the files in an other folder. And if you lost them one time, you will have just to restore your profiles in the folder
If you edit your filament profile in Studio, there is currently no setting for Pressure Advance (K values). The filament calibration procedure in Studio only saves the calibration results to the printer, not to the filament profile on the computer. So those results are lost if the printer is restored to factory settings.
That’s one reason I prefer OrcaSlicer - it does store the K value in the filament profile. The Bambu cloud keeps the Studio and Orca profiles in sync, so it is there and available, but Studio ignores it in favor of the value stored (or not) on the printer.
I invest a fair amount of time calibrating all my filaments with Orca, and the time investment is well protected. There are many copies: two copies on the office PC (Orca and Studio), two more on the shop PC, another copy in the Bambu cloud, plus daily backups of the two computers in office and shop.
It is not about securing the filament profiles, but about the K-value profiles. And these are saved in the X1C printer. If a factory reset is performed or the printer is disconnected from the power supply, these are permanently deleted.
The synchronisation of print profiles between Bambu and Orca has not worked for me for months. Changes to profiles or newly created profiles are no longer synchronised in the other slicer. Logging off and on to the cloud and re-synchronising does not change anything, the data is not transferred. I then have to copy it manually between the slicers on the PC.
I am powering off the printer when not using (with smart plug, time-to-time with the switch at the back of the printer). When I turn it on, K-values are still in the printer´s memory. Only one small problem there still is. You must go to the fillament settings in the printer, click on the slots A1-AX, and you can see there are all fillaments (customs too). It remember your actual brand, material, and color. Dynamic Pressure Control is None, but it is still there - click on “none”, and choose your saved profile. They are filtered for this brand and material type. I named them by colors. So, I find my color from the list and K-factor is back again
But yes, problem is factory reset. If I have stored a lot of the fillament profiles, there is missing manualy restore these profiles. It will be time consuming to calibrate all these stored fillaments. We can edit existing profiles, but if there are no profiles (after factory reset), there is problem. I can´t add nothing to this table. If is there some reason to backup/restore it, will be very helpfull. (sorry for my English)
I’m interested in this thread. The last entry was in February 24. I’m new here and I am concerned about having a backup so that I can restore the filament parameters etc if things go wacky. Time has moved on. My question is, can I backup everything safely because there must have been some firmware upgrades since the previous post. I ask because today I was trying to find a way to backup and was wondering how I could restore or edit the k values in the printer. Or should I move to using the Orca slicer from the get go? This is what brought me to this thread. Thanks.
Having just done a factory reset and forgot this, restored to find it all gone bahhhh… I’m kind of lucky that I back up my filament settings in an excel sheet, I went to town adding them back as I used the spools. The Bambu filament eco-system is flawed and I’ve never come to grips with how convoluted it feels to simply pick a roll of filament off the shelf and use it.
The Orca feels a little better but I’m still at a loss to why things aren’t all in one place on the printer SD card.
