Bad extrusion that is causing rough edges

Hi there! I originally posted this to Reddit to get some answers and after a few tips I was not still not able to get stuff to print correctly.

I’ve had this printer for about two years now, and I only use it for the essentials around the house. I’ve logged about 253 hours on it, so after a failed print, I thought I’d do some maintenance to see if that helped. But it didn’t. I was printing a grid, and this recently started happening where the left side of the print starts to get really bad extrusion.

So far the steps I have taken on my own:

  • General P1S Maintenance steps
  • Changing out the filament to see if the filament was the issue (using PLA only)

Steps I have taken based on advice I received from Reddit (Wasn’t much help):

  • Get BIQU CryoGrip Pro Frostbite plate (someone on Reddit said it was an adhesion issues)
  • Add Brim

Please help me figure out what could be going on. I really need to get this sorted out as soon as possible.

Also here is the original reddit post if you need more info.

Thanks!

Have cleaned your belt idler pulleys? I noticed mine had clumps of crud on them.

Hi!
I’m not sure what firmware version you are using, but there has recently been a semi-large firmware controversy. Version 1.08.00 seems to be messing up some people’s printers. This is fixable though.

Assuming you are using 1.08.00, I recommend downgrading to 1.07.00.

(The source post is linked, as is a video link on how to downgrade)

In this video, he only downgrades one version, but everything else I see says to downgrade to 1.07.00.

Thanks for getting back to me! I was actually thinking that could be the problem since I recently upgraded to 1.08.00. So, I went ahead and downgraded to 1.06.01.02 yesterday, hoping that would fix it, but it didn’t seem to work.

Oh.

Have you tried a factory reset?

These are the steps that seemed to work for me:

  1. Downgrade firmware
  2. Factory reset
  3. Hardware calibration (in settings on P1 printer)

I have also read that people are having luck rolling back Bambu Studio and Handy versions, but I would have no clue how to do that.

I really hope this helps. It is quite annoying when a reliable printer requires IT help.

Though, with your specific issue, it may be a possibility that something more mechanical is occurring.
