Bambu 85A TPU bug

Anybody else notice they cant get tpu 85A to show up in the filament lists? Ive added it on the system filaments to use page, but it still doesnt show up on any filament drop downs

Edit. When i change the nozzle to .6 on the machine interface, the 85a filament shows up in the slicer drop downs.

Yeah, I’ve just been picking 90A for the filament and printing with that setting. 85A seems to print ok with it as long as I go through the top.

I think it may be because I didnt have .6 nozzles installed.

I didn’t even realize the 0.4 nozzle wasn’t supported for 85A. Not even the high flow ones.

That, makes sense. I’ve even seen a few P1 threads having issues and forgot that it doesn’t support the 0.4mm nozzle. IMO, BBL should probably add it in and put an alert on the mismatch. Otherwise, people tend to assume they screwed up on the slicer, and find workarounds that don’t work.

Being able to choose a filament from the selector should have nothing to do with the size of the nozzle you have yet to add to your printer.

You are simply choosing a filament you may use in the future, adding artificial locks would be dumb at best, given the way they expect people to set these things up.

It is also missing from my selector.

I imagine it is another omission from @BambuLab, it would be good if they told people WHY it is not listed.

Why can we not find a TPU85A entry in the pool of filaments chooser?

  • Accidentally forgotten?
  • Purposely omitted?
  • Something else?

When I went to build a custom filament profile for it, I was able to base it on the built in 85a bambu profile, but when it asked me which printer profiles to apply it to, they were all .6 and .8 nozzle printer profiles. Including .6 and .8 h2d This is how I figured it out.

Ill try and select .6mm nozzle on the machine and see if it shows up as an option for filament profiles in a minute.

Edit. When i change the nozzle to .6 on the machine interface, the 85a filament shows up in the slicer drop downs.

I have just confirmed this.

I refer you back to my earlier comment.

How would anyone guess this?

The lack of obviousness these days is too often the default.

This is a dumb situation.

@BambuLab, please fix this issue and add a message on filaments in the chooser with caveats.

Your current solution requires guesswork as the 0.6mm nozzle is not the most common and would likely be selected after the user decides to add the filament.

I see it as stupid proofing for the average new user that isnt building their own profile. Today, I would have been the stupid non new user because I tried to work around the fact that it was missing. And I was using the .4 nozzle. Didnt go so well lol

I hope my shoes fare better.

Thats what I want to make for the wifey. Gotta order some .6 nozzles. Hopefully theres a size guide for the shoes somewhere. $40 ish per roll makes it an expensive failed experiment

I have the filament and all the nozzles to play with, I just need to organise myself as the filament has to go through the top, and I have all of my printers well managed and located with multiple AMS units each.

All the shoes have guides for scaling for each size. Scroll down past the images in the description. One example:

This is from “Bambu TPU 85A @BBL H2D.json” for BS 02.00.00.76
and holds true for the P1, X1 & H2 files:
],
“compatible_printers”: [
“Bambu Lab H2D 0.6 nozzle”,
“Bambu Lab H2D 0.8 nozzle”
],

Which is about the same as Bambu PLA Wood not being listed for 0.2 nozzle.

I guess a pop up warning would be nice, but you are dealing with different manufacturers of TPU, not just Bambu and I am not sure what complications might be added by trying to do a logic check infront of filament choice that says if nozzle 0.x not shown then show xxx message. Plus if you are using a different slicer than BS or a different version someone with out a lot of experience (like beginner Thud-oops) would probably just go, oh I can use this generic filament, it should be fine and still create a mess and probably blame it on the printer.

A simple warning icon over affected entries, which, when hovered over or pressed, shows text to inform rather than block, would solve the problem.

I remind you of the lack of obviousness, which is becoming pervasive.

Hiding something without telling someone it is hidden is pure stupidity.

It invites tickets and support calls for reasons that actual communication would have rendered unnecessary.

I don’t know. Maybe a generic warning at filament select box that you will not see filaments listed that are not deemed compatible with the nozzle you have selected.

85A for shoes… wow, you guys are very brave.

I haven’t left my house in over 5 years for medical reasons, so they will be used in the house.

Given I am in bed for 23 hours a day, they will be rarely used.

Brave isn’t the right word, curious is closer, stupid is never too far away.

I wonder if I could use tpu for ams in the other nozzle for the tread

I just Went through the whole why cant I find BBL TPU 85A also. Even when you look in the store at hot ends it says 0.4 mm works with TPU BBL hot end store But apparently the 0.4 mm nozzle is only supported for the stiffer TPU and for 85A you are supposed to use 0.6mm Nozzle.

Would be nice if BBL was a little more clear about this. I would have ordered a new nozzle while the sale was going on and before I just dried my TPU for the first time.

Oh well, Live and learn.

Just make your own preset for your 0.4 Nozzle based on the 90A BL Preset and change the volumetric speed to the value from thei 85A 0.6 Nozzle Preset.
