I recently started having an issue with my A1 printer which has done about 2000 hours. The first layer is terrible and the extruder clicks as it cannot push the filament out due to nozzle so close to bed. I have checked behind the nozzle and the seven screws are all tight and even replaced the nozzle and the heating block itself. Also replaced the whole extruder unit filament sensor and the 4 Hole AMS on top of the extruder unit. I have taken the Z screws out inspected them cleaned and greased them and put them back. Also checked Z belt and have trammed the bed but still issue persists. I have tried two hardened steel nozzles now and checked both fans in the head to see if they are working ok. I have only used PLA and PETG through this printer and I have also replaced the tubes from the AMS Lite. The AMS Lite was also disconnected and I used an external spool holder just to rule out if the AMS Lite causing issues? The only thing I wonder now is whether the Z Motor is faulty??
Most of the threads I have read have all dealt with things I have already checked so its getting to be a nightmare now. Any help appreciated.
It sounds like you went thru all the normal things I would check. Especially those heater core screws
If you are confident that everything is as it should be, and the machine is just autocalibrating every time too low on just the initial layer, you can use orcaslicer to add a Z Offset on your Machine profile. Every time, the machine’ll incorrectly autocalibrate too low, and then the z offset can +0.■■ it back to where you want it.
If you have other non-first layer issues with Z there might be motor or belt issues.
smooth or textured plate? smooth is more finicky.
Thanks for your reply. I will try a z motor replacement and if no joy I will give Orca Slicer a go with the Z Offset. What I cannot understand is why the machine is suddenly auto calibrating too low?

If it’s the same as the A1, go to Settings, then Device on the touch screen.
Im confused, how are you using orca slicer? it doesn’t connect to my printer and i assumed it was due to the upgrade thing that everyone talks about. it used to work fine, but now does not.
Update: Issue resolved fitted a new z motor and problem has gone away. I changed the z belt as well as the printer was stripped down. You have to contact Bambu to get a z motor for the A1 as they do not stock on their website except one for the A1 Mini which is not compatible. Trammed the bed and did a full calibration after fitting.
