I have installed this and can see it has a much smaller footprint than Bambu Studio, so it’s potentially very useful as the primary way to monitor printers instead of having the full slicer open. However, I see at present the software is very basic, here is what I would like to see as it is developed:
- Allow all the same manual control that we have in Studio. From what I see already most of it is there, although it doesn’t look as good in Studio. I think you are missing the following functions:
- Load
- Unload
- AMS: Update on Startup
- AMS: Filament Backup
- AMS: Auto Refill options
- Binding maybe
- Rename printer
- Firmware update
- View SD card contents with model thumbnails and timelapse view
- HMS status
- WIFI signal strength
-
On the devices page, show the bed temperature for each device. Bed temperatures are useful as I look at them when to collect a print.
-
Add option to enable camera display for all printers on the devices page. This has been a much requested feature in Studio, but maybe it’s easier to implement in Connect. It’s okay if the cameras are disabled after a while, but being able to observe every printer at the same without having step through each one would be a massive boost to usability and it might make people embrace Bambu Connect…
-
Building on the above, ideally allow us to customize the devices page as much as possible. I want to be able to see printers displayed in boxes with lots of information, or printers listed in a big table with spare information. I want to customize what information is shown about a printer. I want to see the filaments loaded. Any data or information I want the option to add it to the display on the devices page. As far as I can tell Bambu Connect uses web technologies for the GUI so having a nice display page should not be hard at all.
-
Add dark mode like Studio.
-
Make the visual style consistent with Studio.
-
On each printers page it’s possible to click the pin icon to pin the printer to the top of the page as a tab. However, it seems you can only pin one at a time which isn’t very useful. Generally I’m not sure what you’re trying to achieve either because it doesn’t help navigation at all. Instead, how about a nice list of printers down the left hand side so you can click on them there and get to any printer quickly? That would be great.
-
Each printers page doesn’t exhibit good responsive web design characteristics. Specifically, when I resize the window to half the size of my monitor I now see a scroll bar, even though there is very little information on screen. Bambu Studio actually behaves better in this respect.
-
Show at what time a print finished. This is very useful for operation of my small print farm.
I’m happy to chat to the devs to assist with this products development, I have 27 years experience in web technologies, page front end, backend, as well as node.js and more… but otherwise I entrust the devs will get on top of this and make it as full featured as Prusa Connect.
