Bambu do not allows me to use my printer!

dragu, I wasn’t meaning to throw shade at you; it was the other user I responded to that got me. However, I would say the same, more or less.

There are security reasons they’re pushing this; one could argue it one way or another, but there is still some validity to those claims from a security perspective. I’ve followed security issues in the internet space and IoT space for awhile, so I don’t know; I have my opinions of it all and it sides on the side of security. Like I’m glad Bambu is trying to take the time to secure their systems where most companies just dump hardware out there and call it a day. Most of us will never abuse it, and may find some annoyances in those measures, but it does protect us from that potentiality down the road.

Jon mentioned X1Plus, and they were originally able to get that firmware on the system through an exploit. That same exploit could have been used to damage your printer in some fashion. I believe part of the agreement between Bambu and X1Plus was to make a more secure method for installing the custom firmware, that allowed them to patch out the exploit. It was mentioned/talked about too, about how this requirement would come about and old firmwares might not work. I recall reading it in passing, but can’t remember the specifics. The jist of it was around that thought though, that there would become a requirement of the firmware and slicer software needing to be up to a certain version to be able to take full advantage of all the cloud and ecosystem features.

Anyway, I know it’s annoying. It’s frustrating; having come from a time where the devices we bought just existed. Didn’t have to worry about firmwares, software updates, security issues, etc. Or things like is my device even going to work in the future when they stop releasing phone app updates?! Yeah… And there’s probably a question about if Bambu should be making it clearer that it’s an eco-system and not just a printer. Certainly when the X1 was first released, everything was a bit more stand alone, but they have evolved it into a more consumer driven product, with those same pros and cons that come with that setup. There’s a lot of people that certainly didn’t buy into the eco-system side, but it’s here now, and it’s not always easy to avoid.

As it is now, there’s at least some choice. I mean, speaking of X1Plus, you could go that route, although I think that’ll kick you from the cloud train, for better or worse. I’m not sure all the details/specifics, as I focus on Makerworld so tend to keep my stuff in parity with their expectations. For better or worse, hahaha (yeah, I want to use orca more, or other beta features)

Thank you to all who show interest in to this topic! Just to be clear … the restriction to use my printer occur between prints … it was not like after a year I try to print something… and my firmware was out of date! Between prints it was like 5 minutes! How I solve this problem … I upgraded the firmware. Then I continued with my day. What bother me … the fact that this text I receive even exist in Bambu data base! I appreciate the effort Bambu Team is doing keeping the firmware update and all the bugs problem resolved… What I do not appreciate, is to be stop from using my equipment! Once again , Thank you Bambu Team for this great printer and for your efforts on keeping those printers running!

You were only stopped using the Bambu Lab cloud. Local printing, sending file to SD card, was still possible.

If you are using a new version of studio that has new features then the printer needs to be updated to use those features. It works the same in reverse. If you updated the printer but you didn’t update studio then you’ll have issues I bet.

Try using Orca instead of Bambu Studio

I am sorry to hear that, I have X1 Carbons Normally only upgrade the firmware on one of them, Run calibration on And do test prints to see whether it hurts the unit or if I get improvements on my print quality. I have ultimately chosen to upgrade to each new firmware after testing, I am currently now able the print with some filaments with zero layer lines. Stuff.I have to do quite a bit of prep after printing A year ago is now requiring no prep after print. And yes I have tested some of the items like quit working when you upgrand yes they’re wonderbut the quality of print imphave outweighed all the functionality that brings. So I am having a hard time understanding why someone would not choose to do the firmware upgrades. At the shop, we’ve been getting damaged or return 3D printers and rebuild in them adding upgrade and getting fully them functionand the more I do this, the more I appreciate what bambu labs does the other makers don’t have yet or the Quality.
If I need the print something and I need it to be right.I’m using the X1 carbon.

Well, you can use LAN mode then if you want to stay on an older version.

But if you choose to use their cloud servers of course you have to update your firmware so your printer and their server can communicate securely.

You may own the printer, but the software (including operating system) is never owned by you. You only have a right to use. It has always been that way since the first days of written software. Read the EULA.

What is this person’s reasoning for being so adament about not wanting to upgrade? Obviously this person clearly does not understand the purpose of many software upgrades. Some are meant to add new services and functionality for this end user and others to enjoy, while some are meant to maintain a stable host platform for all to enjoy.

Lol, exactly… If someone doesn’t wish to upgrade, they can always stop using the software. But unfortunately without the software, the printer is nothing but an expensive door stop.

If you never talk to the cloud, the cloud will never know. You do know that the cloud is not really in the clouds, right? Disconnect yourself from the internet, then no cloud…

I agree with Josh-3D if you don’t like what Bambu is doing go play in someone elses garden for a while and see if it is any better! All Priters and companies have their own issues.

How is it ‘different’ if it stops your system from actually WORKING!!!
If this guys printer is working to his satisfaction … WHY should he be forced to change it.
Bambu may have made this product … but the customer has bought and paid for it!!

I expect, at some time or other, when you install bambu studio, you have to acknowledge that you have read the terms and agree to the licencing. I also guess, that buried in the small print is a statement or two that covers their ass in the op’s situation, and others. The printer is not broken. bbl have merely upgraded the software which is used to communicate with their servers. That software will be licenced., you do not own it. When bbl is more established, and have got more folk hooked into their system, they may well be demanding a subscription fee. After-all, they did say they were modelling their business on apple.
