I don’t know how BLab reviews the contests, if it’s manual or if it’s done by an AI, but this doesn’t seem normal to me, they don’t even bother to check the licenses.
For those who don’t understand, the first picture are the honorable mentions of the bathroom accessories contest, the benchy file has about 500-600 points in downloads, plus the coupon for the contest, it’s 80 dollars for a design that clearly violates the license of the original design.
Moreover, the design is clearly a remix. The contests don’t allow remixes, so the user set the design as original, which is not. That’s even more against the rules of the contest than violating the Benchy T&C.
It doesn’t look like one of those. OP is pointing out that any model that already won a contest is not eligible to any other contests.
There is a penalty of 50 points for entries that are out of theme, but no such a fine for uploading an entry that already won a contest. So some may just upload again trying to get some more downloads.
By now, MW should know that if there is a way to cheat, people will do it as long as there is no real consequence, even if it violates the rules.
Interesting point out. IIRC there was a user here the other that had issues with the way people were violating Benchy’s license but yet on this model they have a profile uploaded. Hmmmm
It’s apparently easy to put a remix into a contest here - just don’t call it a “remix”.
Makerworld’s handling of copyright claims for remixes is disastrous. I wonder whether the rejection is already automatic without any human intervention or whether the examiners are simply not sufficiently trained.
The root cause of all these is that there is no consequences of violating the rules. The worst that can happen is that the ineligible entries are removed from the contest page. The uploader can even choose to wait a couple of hours and upload them again.
MW should apply the 50-point penalty fo all inegligble entries, and for each violation (ie, a reupload gets another 50 points fine), and more importantly, enforce the rule and really take out 50 points.
A useless and rather unpolite comment. Following your logic only winners have the right to post something about the results of the contests. It would be better to use the forum to help each other and help MW to improve - and from this point of view the post of @lhorderor1146 is legitimate and welcome.
They truly don’t care or even attempt to care. I designed a Union Jack coaster, about a week later someone published theirs and it was identical and then I found another one the same, all of which were after mine. I took screen shots and posted the links to both and Bambu declined the claim. Waste of my real time
Hi,
Thanks for pointing this out. You are absolutely right in that this model is a remixed version of the Benchy and that it should be ineligible to be awarded. This result was simply based on the functionality of the models, we have to inspect and monitor the respect for proper licensing of the original model. The award will be withdrawn.
We apologize for this matter and promise to properly and carefully inspect related issues moving forward.
Thanks for your concern
This is great news! We all know MakerWorld is in beta, but there’s lots more to be done.
The biggest task is to be fully transparent with everyone and task action regarding violations like this. EVERY contest should be closely monitored because they’ve been fully taken advantage of.
unfortunately I see prizes in each competition that are not at all deserved.
Awards raise questions, and I don’t often participate in competitions, so this is not a loser’s whine, but a simple observation
Obviously a remix. But so are a ton of other models in these contests. Don’t think they do anything about it because most stuff is a remix of other stuff. Not too many original models in a lot of the contests.
I totally agree. And I would add that the value and quality of the content on Makerworld is also a responsability of the community members - in other words, we are responsible too. If we consider the amount of daily uploads, the bots, people who are here just to get credits without contributing at all, etc. it becomes quite clear that the task of Makerworld is extremely difficult.
We have to do our part and Makerworld gave us the tools for that: if we see a model that violates rules we should report that model. I know that it might sound nasty, but if we don’t do anything about it then I think we have no right to complain.
IMHO as community members reporting is more a duty than just an option.
“Mother’s day” contest is not a great theme in my opinion, as anything goes and it will be a free-for-all. Can’t really disqualify anything, as anything can be gifted to one’s mother. Excited to post my own entries, but expecting some of these same comments.
