The vagueness of the “September” statement has me feeling it won’t be at the start of the month otherwise they would have announced the date like they normally do.
You might have a point here; indeed, they did state "Coming September", but they haven’t specified which year.
I hear the cleanlieness debate bandied about constantly. I laser cut cork probably 2-3 times inbetween standard maintenance routines. I’ve never noticed any serious build up or degradation of quality. I doubt many home users would be doing a couple dozen hours plus of wood engraving to make it a potential issue.
For the average home user with limited space having it in one package for space and cost is nice.
False conclusion: Just because you don’t have a problem with it doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist. It’s simply a matter of physics that laser processing produces debris; there’s no getting around that.
In addition, vapors are produced that should not be inhaled, and the device’s standard version does not filter them out sufficiently. There’s a reason why Bambu offer it a separate piece of hardware: They wouldn’t offer it for no reason, because the H2 series isn’t capable of doing:
Feel free to talk to me about this topic, but remember that you can’t argue your way around the laws of physics. After all, the dissolved material has to go somewhere - it can’t just vanish into thin air; it simply changes the state of matter.
10 grams of material removed by laser cutting - is still approximately 10 grams of material removed by laser cutting just dispersed particles and in a different state of matter.
Does this bother anyone? Ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide whether they want this in their 3D prints and in their lungs. After all, you’ve already said that it doesn’t bother you.
It’s just on the same level as smoking a cigarette. It’s up to each person to decide for themselves whether to smoke or not.
Edit: If you have pets or children, I would strongly recommend keeping them in separate spaces. After all, you wouldn’t put a lit cigarette in your cat’s mouth - to use a figurative comparison.
I hope that the R1 has a better-thought-out approach to particle and air filtration.
Residue
For some materials, you don’t actually need hours of processing. For example, cutting MDF and depth engraving Acrylics. Just one run and those nasty residues will be everywhere.
I think it’s profoundly stupid (for the company) to propose a product, with competitive capabilities, but you must only use it sparingly, or avoid things it can perfectly handle, unless the price is heavily subsidized, which bambu won’t, but that’s just my opinion on the value proposition.
Fumes
I know a guy that sits in the same room with his CO2 laser, while processing, unventilated, unbothered. Told him of all the dangers but he was just unfazed. Unrelated, in some heavily polluted areas that does things like crop burning, 10 minutes of intense MDF cutting would… really just smell like Tuesday. What can I say, self-love is still absent in a lot of minds out there.
