So I am guessing this is a CO2 laser machine?
So are they actually saying that this is set up to actually cut glass, rather than just engrave it?

Cut glass? This caught my attention. I hadn’t planned to get a laser anytime soon, but I may have to follow this closely and see if R1 is worth to have. I have had ideas on using glass in some projects since translucent/transparent filaments can’t achieve the same effect.
On the glass it will be interesting when the details come out. Normal CO2 lasers generally are not used to cut glass (my understanding) unless you are doing a “score & break” but they do engrave. UV lasers can cut glass.So the wording they used made me curious.
This is nothing more than entry level with some wiggle room. I’ve yet to see another leap in their tech like with the X1C, I don’t think we’re going to either.
If you want a laser machine, just buy from someone who specializes in making laser machines.. ..
I hope they will try to disrupt the laser market as they did with 3d printer market when they announced X1C. Otherwise, it will be difficult for them to compete with brands like xTool if the product is inferior and more expensive.
Pound for pound I’d say the complexities involved in ‘build a better laser’ is much simpler than X1C’s arrival or FDM printers in general. That includes the software/experience/workflow side. But that’s only relevant under equal efforts, which can’t be assumed. The clearest indicator imo is just how much they are (or won’t) going to fix the mess that is BambuSuite.

I agree in the sense that I won’t buy the first model year… at least until the reviews and failure/warranty/maintenance data from several thousand users are available! But… they’ve surprised us before; I don’t think they’d enter the arena unless they have something special.
I’m hoping to see them reshape the 3D scanner industry. Time will tell.
