Bambu Lab Spool Model

Can anyone point me to good models that emulate a Bambu Labs Spool so it is a drop in for my AMS.
I can find adapters out the wazoo but I printed/built a spool winder expressly to avoid the various adapters.
My winder can put put an Inland or Hatchbox spool on an empty Bambu Lab spool inside of 5 minutes so want to stay away from the various ring type adapters and make spools.

I like this one but not sure it fits ALL of your specifications, it’s thje closest I found to the original spool from Bambu:

What am I missing??
Why don’t you use the Bambu Spool file that is on the internal memory of the printer?

Bambu Spool mini (made by A1 mini) Remixed by èƒŒç€ç”»æżæ‰“ćƒ”ć°ž - MakerWorld
Fits the refils nicely

He wants to respool filament onto an existing spool that fits the AMS as far as I can understand.

The bambu spool isn’t designed for 3D printing either and I’m not sure it even has a place to start the filament spooling.

I have a design that has the same dimensions as the bambu spool, prints fast and has the holes for respooling. But being the same dimensions as the bambu spool might make it “expand” when you wind the filament tightly, although most users report that it works in the AMS no problem

I have 2 X1C’s that have the Bambu spool files on the internal memory, so the intention is to 3d print them.

3D printable and designed for 3D printing are two vastly different things. It also uses a lot more filament then necessary and the locking action seems to be hit and miss hence the clip patch.

That said, it still doesn’t allow for respooling and thus wouldn’t help @Wsquared58

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Because that sd card has long been replaced and had been formatted prior to being replaced.
I just rewound the Bambu Lab spools that I had used up with filament and I just drilled a hole just a little bit over the .175mm in the short side of central core. Feed the filament into that hole. Connect drill with metric hex tip to winder and put filament that is on paper or wrong diameter plastic onto a bambu spool. Less than 5 minutes to transfer.
Never had an issue with the Bambu Lab spool locking of the two halves. Not really sure how you can say the BBL spool isn’t designed for 3d printing. The refill is designed to fit onto the BBL spool with a female notch in the paper core that fits the protruding stub on the BBL spool.

Just to confirm mate, I didn’t say this
It was another person who said it.

I said that, and it isn’t. The printable version is just a slightly altered version of the original spool. It sill prints though but it takes up more filament and might need an extra clip for security. All I said was that if you want to print spools there are better designs out there, including ones that have the holes for respooling.

And the spools you use are original injection molded spools, those should work of course. I thought you were looking for a printable spool that would work well.

I All I care about is that they are able to be loaded with Bambu refills (paper core & RFID) or that can be loaded from a donor spool (no paper core & no RFID) and drop in AMS fitment.
The dimensional specs are all I care about Core Diameter x Outter Rim Diameter x Width and 2 piece to accept Bambu refills. Rim diameter and width being driven by AMS fit.

Search:bambu refill - MakerWorld

The first two do not have a respool hole (even though the first one is a novel and awesome concept) but the third does have two respool holes (is this subjective? maybe😅) . Otherwise, just read the reviews for some spools, search for AMS compatibilty and do your own research. Multiple users have left positive feedback and say my AMS friendly one works in the AMS but I don’t own an AMS so I can’t guarantee it.

Only thing I know for sure is that you have to scroll a while to find the official Bambu spool and it doesn’t have the respool hole you are looking for, while a lot of these search results put time and effort into designing for 3D printing and compatibility

Spool from Bambu Labs

A drill can make a respool hole. All the Bambu spools I have rewound with Inland or hatchbox filament have recieved that treatment.
I’m waiting on a power supply for the winder I printed but based on the speed I was hitting with my drill, any spool needs to be beefy and well balanced. No flex.
I may print one with minimal side material to see if sides want to act like a fan and cause windage issues which might cause balance problems.
It has a hand crank on it but I’m going to remove it as that is entirely too slow.
What is the size difference between mini and regular?

Are you sure this works on the AMS for the P1 series, I believe it is undersized specifically to fit the A1 series AMS lite.

This would mean it will not have a large enough diameter required to sit on the spindles.

Do not print any mini version, it barely fits the refill:

It’s fine if you haven’t got a bigger printer but there is a bigger risk of the filament getting off the spool and tangling itself at the side and as @MalcTheOracle says the diameter might not be compatible with the AMS. If your question is for my design specifically, use the AMS friendly one (it has a beefier and smooth perimeter) but other designs that are round and have a beefy perimeter should work as well

If your question was targeted at me I was asking generically. The home-grown engineer in me says use same spool across the board to minimize the number of parts not integral to the printer.
Each printer is trying to capture a particular price point.
Filament/Spools, not so much.

Also, what is the purpose of the shim some of the spools have?
Best material, ABS PLA, PETG?

Sort of in the same vein, I have a spool of BASF 16L stainless 3d printer filament which will need to be transfered to a Bambu Lab or dimensional clone when I get up the nerve to take a crack at that process.

You can see I was replying to someone else (top right corner).

I designed this a while ago

It was meant as an adaptor for jayo 650g cardboard spool

I also designed the ring adaptor to use with bambu refill or exactly empty bambu spool with cardboard core.

Ping me if you want it.
