Bambu Lab Textured PEI Plate with PLA

I have been using this plate for a few days and it has been working great. I love it. I found out I have the older plate and just got my new Gold one today.

As I was looking on the website, it says to have the glass top removed. I have my AMS on top and did not remove it. I have had no issues printing so far.

Why would you need to have the top removed for PLA and not the others? What would I look for? I have been printing Lithophanes and they have come out great. This includes the frames as well. So far only printing with Bambu PLA filaments (different types like sparkle).

With the PLA you don’t want the chamber temp to get too high on longer prints. What can happen is that the filament warms up too much, softens and causes a clog between the extruder and the nozzle. Most people will just print PLA with the door open. This normally is enough circulation. You can also lift the front edge of the glass top and place printed shims under it to vent the hot air. There are lots of printable options if you go this route. Personally I just open the door.

The recommendation is for both (black and gold) PEI plates and high-temperature ones. As @JonRaymond clarified, you can find models addressing the ventilation and AMS on the printer’s top. I only open the door, and if needed.

In my experience, the chamber temperature became critical for long prints. If you print small models, the issue will likely be elsewhere. If you aren’t sure, monitor the chamber temperature during printing.
