Bambu P1S first layer not sticking / mess spaghetti outcome

Hey, I’m having an issue with my Bambu P1S — I haven’t been able to get a single successful print so far.

Problem:

The first layer doesn’t stick well, and the print quickly turns into a mess of wicked spaghetti

What I’ve tried:

Replaced the hotend (set up the correct nozzle I’m using in both cases)

Cold pulls

Extrusion looks normal in the air

Tried to print with PLA(violet) and PETG(transparent)

Factory resets & full calibrations (bed leveling, flow, vibration, factor)

Cleaned build plate (dish soap or IPA) + tried printing on 50° & 60°(checked if the plate is warm)

Correct plate selected (Textured PEI)

Default temps and profiles

I’m starting the prints from Bambu Studio with auto bed leveling enabled

No errors during the print, no errors after

I bought the printer from a friend who had it working perfectly. It was transported for a short distance by car in the original box, but without fixing the bed with factory screws

Still getting similar results every time (it’s messy right from the start, or did okayish first L line and then gets messy during printing a model).

Question:

Any idea what could cause this on a P1S?

Could it be something hardware-related, or am I missing something obvious?

These issues usually translate back to the build plate. When new, used a long time without cleaning, cleaning issues (ipa rather than dishwashing liquid and water),… it can take several runs with dishwashing liquid, a clean and stiff brush and plenty of elbow grease.
In extreme cases, a clean with steel wool can even be neccessary.
And finally, it is a consumable…

If you are concerned about possible transportation issues, just make sure that you have run through the regular maintenance (on the Bambu wiki), calibrated the printer and then try a print with an increased 1st layer line width. In the past z-offset was an issue but the Bambu’s do not (usually) suffer from that issue.

Another thought as it is a used printer: Any mods? Factory reset done?

What type of soap are you cleaning with? If any lotions/softeners and some perfumes are going to make it worse than better.

I cleaned it with Fairy sensitive so far. I will try the concentrated dishwashing liquid next time.

No mods, did factory resets a couple of times

I dont know those products enough to say they are or are not good for a PEI plate at removing oils and not leaving a residue. I personally use Dawn Platinum and Dawn Powerwash and do not have any issues. I just helped someone yesterday with this issue and when I watched them clean they were using some kind of bespoke hand soap and after seeing the issue persist I pulled out the dawn from my tool bag and it fixed the issue. Hot water, Dawn and a blue scotchbrite is what I use.

A quick sears shows the dish drops has moisturizers in it. Fairy sensitive is a bit harder to get an answer on but I’ve seen results saying it does or does not. Dawn Free and Clean has been recommended by others. Even a small bottle just for the plate might help you out.
