Bambu P1S keeps reseting to Normal speed

Hello everyone, I’m having troubles trying to change the speed of my P1S.

Everytime I want to print, I need to wait for the print to start the initial purge line, then select the silent speed on the machine. If I select it before, it just reset to normal as soon as I start sending the print.

But it doesn’t even end here, once the print has been printed in Silent Mode, it once again reset to Normal.

At the moment I’m working on a very small model which require a high level of precision, I need to do multiples models and it is a lil bit annoying when I forget this whole shenanigan because I just waste material.

I can’t switch the speed from the slicer because it is locked for some reason (I don’t really understand why, I could it on my E3 V2 with Octoprint)

Yes I could make a custom profile and change the speed myself, but c’mon, that’s an almost 1000€ printer, I dealt with that kind of things on my cheap E3 sure but I shouldn’t have to on this one and the option is here and should work properly.

So the questions are:
Have I overlooked some settings on the printer ?
Is it a simple bug ?
Am I an idiot ?

My P1S is on the latest firmware build (01.06.01.00) and I’m using Orca at the moment, but it behave the same with BambuStudio.

Thanks for reading.
Wish you all a wonderful day

The default is normal speed and it will default back to it after a print. That’s just how it is as the speed setting is an “system override”.

If you need a model printed slower consistently you need to change the speed settings in your slicer. I know this probably isn’t the answer you were looking for but it is what it is.

Thanks for the quick answer !
No problem, it might not be the answer I want, but at least I know it’s normal behavior. I’ll just deal with it

If you are referring to the “silent mode” found in under device setting, then I am sad to report that what you’re experiencing is the function as it was designed. Bambu did a real shitty job in their firmware testing on this function. Is it infuriating? Absolutely!!! But since this is a firmware bug it cannot be remedied by a simple slicer change although as @JonRaymond has suggested, this could be done in the speed section and then you can save the printer profile for later use.

Tips

Tip #1

I found that the only way to ensure that the silent mode “Sticks” is to wait till the purge is finished and the nozzle has laid down the purge lines at the edge of the build plate. It seems that it is at this point the actually printing process commences. I have tried to continually click on the silent button before that portion of the startup cycle finishes only to believe it was selected and then to find out it became unstuck. It should be also noted that if you click multiple times, I have found that the slicer buffers these multiple clicks and often there is a substantial(>1s) delay in the printer confirming feedback to the slicer. So if you click it twice, the first key stroke registers and after you take your gaze off of the slicer display, the second keystroke registers toggling the function off and you won’t even know it.

Tip #2

I also found that selecting the speed mode from the printer’s physical panel is far more reliable on the PS1. While the firmware communication back to the slicer is unreliable, the display feedback is instant. If the display says 50%, then you know the setting has stuck and only then can you walk away.

Hellow Olias.

The only way for me to change the speed is on the printer panel, the slicer option is just grey and unusable, whether I’m printing or not. Since I’ve got the printer it never worked (about 6months).

Refering to your tip 1, that’s exactly what I have to do, stand in front of my printer, waiting to catch the purge line and then press OK to select the silent mode.

At least I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking that’s the dumbest thing on that printer, which don’t get me wrong is absolutely perfect otherwise. (remember I come from an E3 V2 so that’s night and day and perfect for my use)

Hopefully in a future update we will be able to change it permanently. Because there’s absolutly no reason to prevent you from doing this. If that was only the case for the ludicrous speed, I would kinda get it as it would wear your printer much quicker (I guess) but for Silent Mode, there’s no excuse, you should be able to have it permanently
