As of last week, I just cannot seem to print anything properly in Bambu PETG-HF. I tried using multiple (I think) well dried filament rolls (>=12h on 60-65 degrees), trying multiple print plates (cool plate supertack or smooth PEI with glue stick), multiple models… But just print after print I need to cancel after a few layers just because they continuously turn out horrible. Also tried printing in silent mode just to slow everything down but nothing helps.
I just don’t understand what changed because I do not feel I am applying different manners to dry my filament nor different kinds of settings than I was used to for over a year. Attached images are using the default settings for PETG HF in Bambu Studio at 0.16mm.
Looking at the Bambu Lab Wiki this looks like underextruding. But how do I figure out what is causing this?
Have you tried upping the print temperature? Also have you checked the thermal paste on your nozzle? It can dry out and limit the heat transfer to the nozzle.
Finally found the time to try your suggestion. When taking of the sock and cables I didn’t even feel like there was any thermal grease left apart from a bit of dust that fell on my desk, so definitely worth a shot. Unfortunately I seem to have snapped the thermistor along the process. Looking back, I don’t even know if it was necessary to try and remove it, but I was just following the video…
I have a spare incomplete 0.4 hotend and complete ones in the other diameters, though I think I should leave the cables there to not destroy anthing else. I ordered a new complete 0.4 as well as an extra fan and the cables to try and fix my current one as well as convert my other 0.4 to a complete one, just for future cases like these. Hence, I will need to wait a few days to see if this fixes my issue.
However, I’m wondering, does this imply that not using my spare hotends for a long time also makes them probably difficult to use due to hardened thermal grease?
The thermal grease will dry out over time.
My X1C is about 18 months old. The print quality started to degrade. The thermal grease was dry. A quick cleanup, new grease, and a hotend. Print quality is restored
I’m still awaiting the parts to be able to use my 0.4 nozzle again, but meanwhile I did a few prints with my 0.6 replacement and all of them went fine. So I’m confident it’s indeed the nozzle, and in particular the thermal grease that caused the issue. Thanks for the suggestion!
