Bambu Studio 1.8.0 Public Beta

I know a lot of hardcore users still love Orca but I’m hanging on to Bambu Studio for a bit. Just curious can you install both side by side with zero issues?

https://github.com/bambulab/BambuStudio/releases

So new features of the beta version look pretty nice:

  • Support for creating custom filaments
  • Support for creating custom third party printers
  • Supports exporting and importing printers’ profiles, filament profiles, and process profiles
  • Support auto flush calculation function (I like this because I tend to forget!)
  • Auto-arrange objects to the middle of the plate while switching the printer profile
  • Add connector function (snap and dovetail cutting, and improvements to flat cutting

Improvements:

  • Support nozzle diameter detection and nozzle hardness detection
  • Add “top area threshold” in develop mode, which could improve top area quality in some cases
  • Add the “best object position” parameter to allow users to define the optimal position to put the model
  • Add Tree Organic as a new support style. This feature is picked from PrusaSlicer. (I like this one also)
  • Improves the connection of the patches (improves painting tooling)
  • Support to search model by name on the object list (nice)
  • Add wipe tower weight summary in gcodeviewer (nice)
  • Support to edit plate names on the object list (nice)
  • Support to set ironing angle (this is great for those who use ironing)
  • New language support

Thoughts?

I agree. I also tend to rely more on Bambu Studio since its last update. However, on occasions I do go back to PrusaSlicer when in doubt, to verify if there are differences in terms of plate gcode on slicing, time and material. Personally, I find Bambu Studio very reliable and user friendly (@ least until now).

I wish yall would start using Orca, these features have been on it since Prusa updated 7 months ago, and it remembers your settings where BBS doesn’t, and retains everything BBS currently offers except MakerWorld intergration (but that’s coming too)

Yes. Your customized filament and process presets can be shared through the Bambu cloud (for settings recognized by both Studio and OS). OS calibration results are stored in the filament preset on your computer. Studio stores them in the printer, where they will be lost if you ever reset the firmware. OS has many more built-in calibration routines.

I think the MakerWorld integration is the only Studio feature not currently available in OS, but I don’t see that as a negative. I don’t trust the MW profiles enough to send them directly to my printer. If MW is the only source for a model, I download the STL/STEP file and adjust the settings myself.

Studio works, OrcaSicer works just as well and provides more options.
