when setting up my printer i noticed that Bambu Studio has some issues connecting to my printer.
my setup might not be the most common, but i am connected to the company LAN and to Wifi.
the Wifi an the company LAN are NOT connected.
The printer is connected to the Wifi. in order to make Bambu Studio connect to the printer i have to disconnect the LAN cable shortly.
not sure if this is a bug, maybe i can specify a prefered interface somewhere this might be a quick fix.
Hey, I’ve got something similar, as my work computer only has a wired connection to the work network and does not have wifi access. What I did was buy a cheap dual band router off of amazon for about $30, connect it to the company wired network via ethernet, set it up in access point mode, and then use my phone with the Bambu app to connect the printer to the 2.4 Ghz network the access point made. Then I was able to connect to the printer with bambu slicer after restarting the slicer.
I hope that helps.
Company networks are a pain for those things and no offence but I would trust a Chinese company with elevated computer access through Studio to also access the company network.
My trust only goes so far - sorry Bambu…
There IS several options here…
1: Ask your IT department for help
It really is no problem at all to add a simply WiFi repeater or even a dedicated AP for the printing needs.
Beauty of this route is the your IT guy can set up the AP/router the RIGHT WAY and with the best settings for the company network.
Costs about 100 bucks if they don’t have the spare hardware sitting around.
Quick and dirty
Assuming, based on being able to install Studio to being with, that your computer/laptop is not managed by your IT department >
Get a cheap USB WiFi dongle with a removable antenna - not those micro ones…
If you ever have signal issues you can replace the flimsy antenna with a 8DB gain TP-Link or such.
Set up with new Wfi as an access point.
The printer will be able to connect to it and since it is provided by your computer Windows has access as well.
As number 2 but with extra security
Assuming you still value the data safety of your company you can install Studio in a Sandbox or if you also download a lot of models run it in a virtual machine.
Yes, it takes some extra work to configure it all but that’s what your companies IT guys should be good for.
Anyway, it is actually not hard and anyone can follow those Youtube tutorials…
The beauty here, apart from the added safety layer is that YOU are in control.
Means if something fails to work there is only limited possible causes you can check and fix quickly.
In VM you have the added benefit of being able to have multiple Studio versions available.
Means that if you 3MF suddenly fail just because you updated Studio (in a new VM) you can quickly go back to a fully working and tested environment to see whether or not the Studio update is to blame.
There is always the option to sell to ugrade to a X1E to pay a lot of extra money for a working ethernet port on a printer - Bambu probably prefers you to try this route first LOL
I did a print last night and then BambuStudio lost the connection and it hasn’t been able to connect since. Bambu Handy will connect without problem.
It says “connection refused” and in the connection dialogue->test says:
Could not connect to Octoprint: curl: Couldn't connect to server: failed to connect to 192......port 5000: Connection refused [Error 7]
