Bambu Studio request

Good morning everyone,

Im not sure if others have encountered this problem or even find it a problem but firstly i use a lot of black filament but to choose black colour or have it scanned as black filament, the models in the slicer are impossible to see and requires the colour to be changed to another. Secondly the slicer i feel should show the spools representative of the AMS slot it is in. Currently if i take out slot 1 and have spools in 2,3 and 4 in the AMS, the slicer still shows them as filament 1,2 and 3. This is pretty confusing when trying to dictate which slot in the AMS for the printer to use.

I have to admit that “black” models are very difficult to visualize inside Bambu Studio (sometimes i temporarily change the filament color just to have a better view on it …).

The “3D wireframes” (= lines at the edges of each shape) should be rendered in another color…

I agree with both points here, but I’m not sure there is an easy way to fix the fact that black is just gonna be hard to work with. The problem is that if you’re working with multiple colors, you generally want them to show realistically on the model. When you’re trying to paint tight spaces having a white wireframe around the black could make you miss a thin slice that needs to be painted. And if you’re working with black and grey in a model, making the black “lighter” could screw up things as well.

It think the best option here is to temporarily change the filament color. If you click on the color here:
image you can change it to something like purple or some other color to make sure you’re getting all the areas/angles. Then swap that color back to black when you’re ready to print.

As for point 2, I’m not sure why Bambu did this other than maybe to simplify the interface for someone who might have multiple AMS units. Like if I had 4 units and only had 2 rolls in each unit, then I’d have 16 slots, half of which would be “empty” taking up screen space in the program. However, I can’t see too many people being in that situation where they have that many units and that many empty slots. I’d much rather have empty slots shown (in those VERY rare instances where I have an empty slot) vs. saved screen space.

The preview screen can show the actual colour of the filament and the prepare screen could just have a single colour for the models to be seen in or an option to choose if you want the models to change to the slot colour or not, it could be part of a UI options menu. I understand the real estate answer which could be solved if that portion had tabs for like AMS1, AMS2, AMS3 and AMS3 depending on how many are hooked up

I think the preview screen is more for seeing how things line up after slicing. Plus if I was working on painting a detailed model having to do some paint, back out, switch to preview, wait for it to re-slice, and then go back into prepare to do more edits… that would be a pain.

I think the work around of just picking a different color, temporarily (either by by clicking on the color swatch or by choosing a different filament) is probably the best option. I think you’re in a special use case where you’re primarily using black and so have different needs than most people using an AMS unfortunately.

If I recall correctly, models default to the first color listed, so if possible maybe not have black in slot one?? Then your model might default to the color of slot one while you look at it, and then switch to black filament after doing whatever edits/tweaking you need to do?

Re: screen real estate: I don’t think you need separate tabs, although that’s certain and option. I think Bambu Labs is trying to save space when 99% of the time it isn’t necessary. I just don’t see people having multiple AMS units with multiple empty slots where that extra space could be saved.

that’s what have been doing when painting on Prusa Slicer became available but would be nice if BL can design something similar to what 3d Builder treats for dark parts, you can have reflections on/off to help bring up the faces of the part, wire frame mode or have a globe light source which can adjust to your liking?

adding a light source or shadowing would help yes. Would be nice if could also buy RFID stickers to program and use on non BL spools

I have the same problem, black filaments are just blobs in the slicer. Rendering black needs a lighter secondary grey. I don’t see why that can’t be done….
