Bambu Studio V2.8.3 Beta introduces a series of new features and user experience improvements.
This version adds illustrated slicing parameter tips to help users better understand how different settings affect printing. It also improves the interaction experience and filament entry workflow in the Filament Manager, and optimizes the automatic placement behavior of the wipe tower to reduce overlaps and interference with models or other objects.
On the slicing side, the slicing engine now supports independently setting the infill line width for the first layer to improve first-layer adhesion. A new Archimedean spiral ironing pattern has been added to further improve top surface quality. In addition, users can now set a separate infill pattern for the second-to-top surface, helping reduce the visibility of internal extrusion marks on the top surface.
This release also improves the stability of the Boolean tool, refines mouse interaction behavior, and fixes a range of known issues to provide a smoother overall experience.

The Linux AppImage version is unusable. Tested on 2 separate machines, each running Linux Mint Mate edition version 22.3 (Zena).
Whenever one of those new slicer setting pop-ups appears Studio totally locks up and prevents switching focus to anything else, either within Studio itself or another app. The only way out, other than rebooting, is to drop down to a console and killing it.
There is a problem, when on the Print screen, if you open the filament selection drop down and change the filament, it leaves a grey box in the middle of your screen that’s on top of all apps, desktop, etc.. Closing and reopening Bambu Studio fixes it.
I have a screenshot to share, but it won’t let me embed it into the post or upload it.
“Add Filament Vendors / Brands from the Filament Manager Entry Page”
This looks like a huge improvement, thankfully. However, what about DELETING (or, at minimum, hiding filaments and filament manufacturers) from the list that I never use?
I’m very happy to see Bambu Labs working on improving filament settings and spool management, and the changes in this beta are definitely very helpful, but overall, its still a mess. Filament settings are created and modified in the “Prepare” interface, but then the Spool Management has its own interface. They really need to be combined. And there needs to be a way to link particular filament setting to a spool in my inventory.
Overall, I think there should be an interface window dedicated to all aspects of filament management - Doing filament calibrations, setting filament print parameters, and tracking spool inventory.
