Bambu X2D Concerns

Yeah, I gave in and ordered an X2D (I sold my A1 and definitely will miss it). Let’s see how the experience goes. I have plans for Engineering materials and the second nozzle for support material only.

Hi All,

I thought i would pop an update on my usage and my thoughts on this printer and the software to use it.

i will not be addressing other issues that there are many topics on about agpl licensing etc., it isnt needed here as it is covered quite extensively by others on many posts.

  1. Bambu labs software is frustrating in terms of importing models sometimes. it adds printers you need to remove, you need to sync your AMS each time, and just in general that part of the process is clunky and has unnecessary steps.
  2. Once the X2d starts playing you up on filament jams etc., it seems to then become an ongoing issues.
  3. Same as point 2, once you get a clog in the nozzle, that problem for me has become more frequent than is desirable.
  4. Sunlu white is problematic to this machine. for the life of me i cannot get the slicer settings right for this filament and i cannot get it to not have very visible layer lines. Sunlu black was fine.
  5. for PLA, you do really need to print the vent redirector to reduce warping issues. not surprising as they appear to me to be targetting the nozzle, but i feel it just blows too hard and does wait long enough for the plate to go down so it wont affect it as much. This can be managed with G-Code etc., but feel this should be a standard implemented for PLA printing.
  6. Putting silent mode on doesnt deal with the biggest noise the machine makes, which is the fan noises.
  7. Bambu labs software for managing filament to me is crazy cumbersome and confusing. unless i have missed how it should be used, there are two places and in the end, i in the end i judt didnt use the filament manager, i did the settings per filament bit. instructions for this area when i looked (was a while ago) is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.
  8. Camera placement to me could have been better, especially for larger prints.
  9. the nozzle cleaning process sometimes flicks bits of filament onto the print bed.

The good stuff is generally the same, and this printer can really print at a quality level if you have the right settings and show patience in terms of the time you will accept for print time.

Oh my god yes model import is SUCH ■■■.

Oh you imported a pla model, but have petg in your ams? No worries bro heres a screen where you can adapt or override the existing material. Oh wait, you cant set it to a different material than the imported model has, and override doesnt let you chose what filament overrides what.

So. God. Damn. Useless.

I don’t want to do any “betting,” but a user who created an account just to report issues sounds super sketchy.

I’m one of those people. Pretty sure I’m hosed, but I had my first real problem with the X2D today, and in poking at the customer support pages, I saw their exhortation to join the community and figured, where better to go than a group of people who know these printers and are likely to skip the “have you tried plugging it in?” scripts and tell me what’s what. Now I just have to hit the metrics and wait the time to get new-comment privileges.
