Is BambuBuddy still a thing? I am finally getting back to trying it. But some of the gethub pages are not up. giving me a clue that it fell down. Maybe that was a casually of the “security update” of a while back.
I am looking for some requirements. It is my understanding that it needs 2 parts, a client for talking to the server. My question is what are the requirements of the server?
right now I am considering this for a que manager for one printer. Conservable for 2 printers. Can I run the server on a minimal computer? Something like a raspberry Pi. I get how it could need to be more. My concept of how it works is it sends the entire print file at once, and it is printed by the printer. Unlike something like Octoprint that sent individual movements to the printer. A Pi might slow down the send but not the print.
Any clues if Bambubuddy is still working on the current version of B Studio. And is it workable to serve it from a RPi?
According to the developer, a RPi is ok and it’s also enough for a couple printers.
I am using it on my own baremetal proxmox server. I gave it 4gb ram and 40Gb hdd (big files) and a couple cpu cores. It’s running together with all the ARR suite, Grimmory, Bazzite (serving games for 2 computers), PiHole and more services.
It works perfectly, although it needs some initial tinkering but afterwards is “easy peasy”.
My advice is to try it. I did with a rpi3b+ to test the waters and it worked as a charm.
The software is constantly being updated and works with the latest printers as well, provided you enable DevMode on the printer. In recent weeks, the software has seen a boost in popularity again due to the Bambu cloud controversy, which has led more users to look for this alternative.
The last update was actually two days ago.
Pre-built images work on linux/amd64 (Intel/AMD) and linux/arm64 (Raspberry Pi 4/5, Apple Silicon). Apparently, older versions of Raspberry work as well, but the installation seems to be more complicated since there isn’t a ready-made image.
I’d really like to try this but as a complete software idiot I’m waiting for a clear and concise video to follow.
