There’s a lot of random threads on this topic but nothing straight from the membership’s mouth. So here we go.
- Do you use adhesives?
- If Yes, what type liquid, solid or spray(mention brand please)?
- What type of bed do you use adhesive with?
- What type of filaments do you find yourself requiring adhesive and what combination of plate and adhesives?
Here’s my use-case where I’ve not found a 100% satisfying solution. Thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.
-
I use quite a bit of PETG which sticks to EVERYTHING whether you want it or not.
-
I have a number of projects where I am seeking glass-like finish on both sides so a textured plate does not meet the needs for those projects.
-
PETG harms PEI plates unless I use adhesive and even then I’ve ruined too many plates.
-
I use the Bambu High Temp plate which produced a smooth surface but not glass-like.
-
The only combo I found that provides both easy release and works but is not glass-like perfect, is the high temp plate using hair spray in multiple coats. The hair spray has to be washed off and the plate needs to be re-treated if I don’t want the marks from the previous prints to show. That can take a few minutes for each coat of spray to dry if I want to get that mirror like sheen.

I did purchase a specular smooth PEA plate that advertised mirror-like finishes and it was Meh!!! My Smooth PEI plate performed as well.
I found that the Bambu liquid adhesive although effective, does not apply evenly. If I want a glass-like finish, I can’t use it as the streaks will show through. Plus, it’s way overpriced in my view.
I also find that the prices charged for specialty adhesives are whacko crazy. I mean some of this sh*t on an ML per ML basis is 5X the price of a mediocre single malt. No justice there in my mind.
I’m experimenting this week with my own formulas and applicators but I wanted to hear if anyone had any tricks up their sleeve.
