Suggestions on Parts Glue? PLA , PETG , ASA CF variants… curious
Especially for PLA many recommend regular superglue / cyanoacrylate glue. I never achieved good results with those. A real eye opener for me was Pattex PXSM1. It is aimed at glueing plastic parts for scale models. I don’t know if you can get it outside Europe, but there are certainly similar glues from other manufacturers.
ASA - Acetone, if appropriately used, works as soldering. I never tested with CF blends.
PLA - depends on the need.
- Cyanoacrylate works, but the lack of flexibility makes it prone to easily breaking.
- Epoxy - it works, but as with any adhesive, the surfaces significantly impact the bounding.
- Acetone - I had success with some PLA filaments. If you go with this route, print two small pieces of the same filament and test the bounding strength before doing the final part.
PETG - cyanoacrylate and epoxy work fairly. In my opinion, it’s not a great bonding. I usually hand (literally) drill a small hole in each surface and put an ABS dowel with a few drops of acetone. If necessary, I will add some epoxy layer to the contact region.
Speciality adhesives are available on the market for ASA and PLA. For PETG, I have only found harsh chemicals unavailable for general consumers.
It depends on what your object is. If you want the strongest bond, then you want to cement the product in place, not glue. I recently posted about this:
thanks for link. very helpful
The Rayt 607-39 SPRINT is absolutely perfect for all materials. I’ve been using it and it’s outstanding.
I’ve used it to glue all the parts of my Battle Droid and its perfect. You cannot unglue the parts without breaking the plastic.
Give it a try
You can buy it from Amazon.
Are we in jeopardy of a link in our near future? I performed a search on Amazon and nothing comes up.
Here is the link, but it is unavailable right now
Sorry about that… my bad.
