Better top surface finish

I am making a set of magnetic J hook position markers for my power rack. I did a test print and am finding rather bad surface finish. Other then ironing, what can be done to improve this? It is being done with 100% stock settings on a .4mm nozzle. I considered printing it upside down but I do that and the slicer is telling me I need supports for what should be a flat surface. I try to cut off the top layer and it takes the text with it even though when I slice the object and do a layer by layer check, the text is 3mm deep and i’m only cutting off .2mm. So really this is now a two part question it seems.

I do have, but have not played with, a stock .2mm nozzle

Thank you

I would slice it so the text is on the bed plate like you suggested. That will give you the cleanest finish. Instead of cutting the text surface, try lowering the whole part into the bed. That usually fixes “needs support” issues.

Click the move command and drag the blue arrow down. Or enter a lower Z dimension.

Frikkin genius, saved me a couple hours screwing with that. Much appreciated. Going to remember this little trick
