Just upgraded to V10 and STEP import is no longer succeeding.
First on default it was radically reducing resolution which I definitely do NOT want.
So I unchecked that option in settings and reimported models. It’s just sitting there spinning on my fastest machine. CPU is at 100% and it’s not making any progress after 10 minutes.
So I went over to my daily driver which is slower, but has the latest of 1.9.7.52 and everything worked normally.
Looks like BL has broken the STEP file import process and I’ll have to stick with V1.9 for now.
I did suggest that the import dialog be changed. The graphic shows arrow to the right for smoother prints, but the sliders actually need to move left to generate more mesh triangles.
I don’t want BL to process the models at all.
I did slide the sliders to the left, but BL still processes the models - not desirable.
There’s a checkmark in the preferences to turn it all off and I did that. BL 1.10 hung then.
Did the same import in 1.9 and it came in perfectly with no muss or fuss. I saved the file and then opened it on the machine with 1.10 and it was fine.
This afternoon I did the latest update of Bambu Lab Studio that was released (1.10.0.89) and after that when I import a STEP file it shows me the message “Unhandled unknown exception? terminating the application.” In STL files there is no problem.
grazie ancora
I was very confused about the new step import dialog until I saw your screenshot. It seems the graphics in the upper part of the dialog are broken for me. Maybe it’s broken in dark mode?
Here is a screenshot, unfortunately the forum software does not allow me to add neither images nor links to this post, I don’t know why. Replace (dot) with a dot.
It’s because you’re “new” on the forum. When your “trust level” increases, you’ll be able to post images and links.
BS did process the .step files but used default non-configurable settings in order to turn curves from .step files into mesh. I think adding that dialog isn’t an improvement since default meshing setting for .step files was good for most people and those who needed more fine-grained control could do .step to .stl conversion in their 3d modelling software of choice…
They forgot the cardinal rule of software development: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it There was very little to gain with that change and as evidenced by this thread - a lot to lose.
Does anybody know what is the smallest face I should export in my 3D modeling software to have a smooth print? I’m using the standard 0.4 nozzle with 0.2 layer height. Should I aim for 0.2mm faces along curved surfaces or is that too much? Maybe 0.4mm? I think 1.0mm faces along a curve would be visible with the naked eye.
Same error for me in German language, had to turn on dark mode (my Windows also runs in dark mode) and set language to English, restart Bambustudio and set language back to German (dark mode stays on)
That’s how it works for me.
I would also be interested in the question about the original standard import settings
