BL Translucent PETG - lots of little debris on plate

I’m printing for the first time with BL Translucent PETG. It was dried out before printing. I’m using the preset, which I’ve heard needs some adjustment, but I wanted to see what it does without fiddling. I noticed some random little pieces of debris around the pieces being printed. I thought at first the print went bad, but the parts looks fine. Any idea what’s causing that?

A wild guess is that you are using grid infill. This is a “crossing” infill and can produce the debris like you are seeing. Try switching to a “non-crossing” infill like gyroid.

I’ve printed a lot of Translucent PETG. Jon is right that the grid infill can cause that. It’s one of the causes. It’s also moisture, heat, and speed, from my experience.

Moisture is obvious enough. Just like with any filament, make sure it’s dry! On heat I run it a little hotter, and on speed, a little slower. A little more molten coming out, and with the slower speed, it’s just helping put down a more solid line. Also, making sure you clean the nozzle off regularly will help too, if you’re printing a lot of PETG.

Beyond that though, I’ve always experienced some level of debris. Like one blob here or there, but at a level that it’s easy to brush off. With these thoughts in mind though I’ve been able to reduce it to a non-problem.

Once the parts were done I figured out that it was pieces of the bottom that didn’t stick. I had some round parts, about 1/4" thick and they had cavities in the bottom.
