We ordered a blank spool from Bambu Lab but we can’t get it to connect together properly with the filament on it.
The lugs here look deformed is this what’s causing it not to lock in do you think?

In my experience, there are two key parts to keep in mind:
- Align the slot in the cardboard with the “pin” in the empty spool
- Do not, under any circumstances, cut the tabs unless you are absolutely sure to have it firmly sitting in the fully latched spool!
In some cases however, the cardboard has been cut with worn tools. A bad cardboard edge will make it very difficult to install the refill on the spool. There are helpers on Makerworld though.
Finally, after latching the spoll closed and before removing the tabs, you may want to give the filament a good massage. Sounds strange, but it does help against entanglement. And “AMS savers” can help against that as well.
