Blurring Makerworld Guidelines

I noticed this Dragon Skin Chainmail Fabric by Lacher - MakerWorld in the #2 spot on trending today.

I was skeptical as this is the first upload from this user and was just uploaded yesterday. A quick Printables search found this original design by ftobler: Printables.

Now, the original upload allows remixing and sharing without attribution, but I feel that reuploading the design to Makerworld blurs the lines quite a bit. Makerworld only allows upload types of “Remix” and “Original” and this fits neither as no changes were made to the files. So while this doesn’t break Printables rules, I don’t believe it’s allowed on Makerworld. Thoughts?

Note: This is not the only dragon scale reupload on Makerworld :joy:

There’s nothing blurred about it, it’s against the rules flat out. You can report them and link to the original in the report. Also appears to be botting/buying downloads, that’s not a normal download to make ratio.

The picture is also stolen from the Printables makers section.

Reported all three of those, we’ll see what happens.

Reporting these accounts is getting harder by the day, not many are being responded to and those that are are given the “more evidence” reply. MW need to pull up their socks as it feels to me they’ve given up. Whole accounts are dedicated to this BS and rarely will they take full action and ban the user.

It’s funny how one of big reasons they nerfed the rewards was due to scammers and when you report them nothing happens. :upside_down_face:

I also put a report in for the chainmail one and was rejected but looks like someone else’s or more than likely because it was pointed out here it was taken down.

look who’s back.

also “remixed”

Just Report them …
Easy to do

Technically since it’s an public domain model. People can do what ever they like with it. But I do agree it’s sketchy at best.
Bambu Lab is mentioning shares on some of their communication. Is it still a thing on MakerWorld? That would be the perfect classification for those reuploads.

With this being the next big thing for the scammers, it seems to be getting away from MW as they don’t seem to have the nouse to stamp it out. Reports are getting flushed daily afaik and I feel the ones that do get a positive response aren’t truly followed through anyhow. Looking at the new uploads this morning and there are a bunch of “Fakers” uploading the same models, the whole thing is a joke.

That’s old and no longer a thing. Uploading as a share also gave no rewards, as it should be. And while they may be allowed to reupload the models per their licenses. Makerworld’s only options to upload are as Original or Remix. So it’s still not technically allowed here regardless.

They also have been changing the license upon uploading here.

The original model seems to be CC0 and the original author waived rights on it. It allows users to freely build on the original models. But the users here are just sharing them without modifications and are changing the licenses on it. This seems to be wrong. In addition they are using the images that are provided by a users that printed this model on printables. I cannot see that the user of that print waived their rights on their photo they took. The models need to be taken down.

Summary

  • Model changed license
  • Images used are not suspect to the CC0 License

When publishing a public model under the CC0 license, you are required to include your own image of the actual print to show its print-ability.

↑ Guidelines

It’s a requirement for all models now. (They should really update those guidelines, it’s super confusing)

The issue here is people reuploading CC0 models were MW only allows uploading original or remixes but not reuploads.
