Boolean function not working fully

Since the latest update to Bambu Studio version 1.10.2.76, I’m having trouble trying to do any meshing like “union” or “Difference”. I get a "Warning that tells me I have to fix something and try again, except the complete warning goes beyond the popup and can’t be read. I never got this warning before and it always allowed me to perform my mesh boolean with no troubles. Could somone explain to me what’s going on?

It’s hard to conceptualize what your experiencing to give feedback. Could you post a screengrab illustrating what you see?

it’ll take a while. I had to reinstall an older version of Bambu Studio for the Mesh Boolean function to work again. as soon as i finish my present print, then reinstall the latest version will i be able to screen shot it and send it to you.

here are screen shots. The first is setting up for a union, the second is the response i get after I press “union”. Although I’m seeing that it saves

it as unioned.

Oh boy how a picture can really help cut out the mysteries. Thanks for posting Clean screengrabs. This helps a lot. :+1:

TL;DR version:

  • Your Cover1 model has a defective mesh. Click on the “repair” button in your cover1 model on the lower right corner of your screen.

The full message that is clipped on your screen is:

Warning: Unable to perform boolean operation on model meshes. You may fix the meshes and try again. Reason: part ‘cover1’ has self-intersecting geometry.

What causes this is that your model Cover1 has holes in the mesh which make it non-manifold. Think a manifold mesh as being a series of interlocking triangles that when connected make a water tight container. However, in your example, I would bet that “Cover1” has an error message stating something like this:

I just answered another post not more than two hours ago on this very topic and went into depth on how this works if you’re interested in fully understanding mesh’s and manifolds.

That’s what I thought, however, I can use the repair all day and it still comes up with the same problem. The repair tool goes through the model and it still wont mesh. I keep getting the same popup or at least the part I can read.

What operating system are you using? I ask because the repair feature in the Windows version ins baked into the OS. You can try to repair the STL file online with the 100s of websites that come up in Google.

Also, it looks like you are struggling with display resolution issues which may be occluding some additional diagnostic messages. Have you tried decreasing the font size of your OS?

Another option is to load Orca slicer which has among so many quality-of-life features that Bambu simply won’t give us, you can resize or even tear away the menu giving you extra screen real estate. You don’t have to choose between the two slicers, both can be run at the same time. But I promise you, after a little while, you’ll wonder why you still have Bambu Studio loaded on your system once you get used to the many Orca features.

Tear off menu feature making it a movable window.

First off I want to thank you very much for all your knowledgeable input and advice.
I’m using Windows 11. I’m not getting any repair notification in the bottom right of the screen with the cover at any time, which had me confused. I do have my fonts enlarged since my eyesight isn’t what it used to be.
I’ve installed ORCA slicer which looks verry much like Bambu Studios, however it’s asking me to input my machines pin. Can I do this without having to log out and back in? Where can I find the pin on my P1S otherwise. I remember it being a hassle the first time, and now trying to connect two slicers at the same time seems like something my mind can’t conceive at my age.
Thanks again for all your help.

The process to logging into your machine from Orca Slicer is identical to that from Bambu Studio. Orca is a soft fork(derivative) of the Bambu Studio Source code so the developers made sure they maintained compatibility. If you’re using Handy, Orca will work along side of it. If you’re using a PIN, Orca will support that too.

Unfortunately, it has been over a year since I last used Bambu Studio for anything other than testing purposes and I use LAN-only mode for everything else. So I can’t give you a lot of first-hand knowledge about that because the memory is the second thing to go… I can’t remember what the first thing was…

on the p1s printer control panel I go to 3rd choice down (shows WLAN)
right arrow to highlight WLAN
Right arrow again and access code should be listed at bottom.

Thanks for the info, but to connect with the ORCA slicer, what i needed to do was to “Log In to my Bambu Account” with ORCA is all. After that the ORCA found my printer and now it’s working…
Thanks to all for being so helpful. I’m 73 and consider myself a “recycled teenager”. Unfortunately my body doesn’t keep up with my mind anymore, and some tasks are difficult. As far as my memory is concerned, I always thought I was born with dementia, so I’m kinda used to it. (Although i forget why?)

Glad you figured it out. On mine all I have ever needed is the access code to connect to either Bambu or Orca. But it’s only been accessed via LAN only.

With me having the printer connected to the Bambu Cloud I’m able to use the Bambu Handy on my iphone remotely from outside the house. I’m able to check on a long print and stop it if necessary. I’m curios? Does the camera work when your in Lan Mode? I haven’t had the time or effort to try it myself.

So I do PC only, no Handy APP, but yes, when running BS on my PC the camera does work. I do have Time Lapse turned off because I don’t want it but will turn on camera periodically on the “Device” page to check on projects real time, then turn it back off.

I’ve run into the same issue since the update. try fixing the models but still get the error message. how do we revert back to an earlier version of studio?

Try going here: Release 1.10.1 Public Release · bambulab/BambuStudio · GitHub
