Oh! I might be wrong here - Maybe they don’t expire, but even if that’s the case, that just goes to show how confusing this whole thing is lol
But from the very beginning it is supposed to be complicated, it is supposed to be unclear, confusing, out of focus, it is supposed to leave a lot of room for interpretation.
The less we understand as users, the more room for maneuver BL will have.
Changes in point calculation, possibility of downloading without logging in, limit to 5 counted downloads per user once a day, imaginary bots.
Nobody cares about us, we have to sit quietly, do our thing and enjoy what we get from the Tsar’s table.
Communism in its purest form. The rules only apply to us, not to those in power.
I may be missing something obvious, but what is the point of having to redeem the boost tokens? Is there an option to do anything else or would you only ever redeem them?!
Just feels like a pointless step and would make more sense to just redeem them for you.
I feel the boosts may be a key part of further things to roll out.
A suggestion:
The current promotion image of the boost system, as shown below, is confusing. Users may think they are asked to donate $1 dollar to the boost receiver.
I would suggest a redesign and change the wording to something like one of the following, or something similar:
Boost Underappreciated Models
Give Underappreciated Models a Boost
Boost Underappreciated Designers
Boost Your Favorite Models
Boost Your Favorite Designers
Omit the dollar value from the ad. Users don’t need to know this kind of detail when seeing the promotion.
I am not one of the top designers. I am relatively new to 3D printing, got into it a few months before Bambu Lab came into the scene.
One of my models somehow struck some small luck and got 10K downloads. That’s the only source of my points. The rest of the models got virtually nothing, some of which have had very few views and literally zero download.
I also have almost no interaction with users, so I don’t expect to receive any boost or at least not any amount worth writing home for. Of all the designers, I should have been among the ones who oppose the boost system the loudest. But I am not. The current system is broken. It has to be fixed or it would have to go away.
If people have better ideas, offer them. or support ideas that others offered if you agree. I proposed for a long while to combat scamming by granting rights of upload, download, and print only to accounts that are authenticated (either accounts that have been used to buy a BL printer or accounts binding with a mobile phone number). Very few people supported the idea. Now BL is doing it their way, and all of a sudden people are complaining.
That was my thought. Like, why would I keep them as boosts, and why don’t they just automatically turn into reward points?
Curious, how many people got multiple boosts today? None here.
Today was officially my worst day points wise getting 12 (have had days over 1800 during Christmas time) and haven’t seen more than one boost a day since the day it rolled out.
The party definitely is over and it is looking like printables rewards are now better than here if the last few days is any clue. And I have over 1200 followers so my exposure is there.
Makerworld needs to be careful, it will kill itself faster than it was created. But at least they got the few fanboys that defend them here…
I got 2 Boosts today and zero download points. I’m jonesing for some points today.
Yeah it’s been bleak here as well.
I do like that I’ve gotten boosts for some of my less popular models, it’s nice to see those recognized, but overall things have ground to a halt and it’s annoying to have to convert Boosts into Points manually.
It feels like an over-correction. Previously I was definitely racking up points too fast. Now they’re so sparse I’m probably going to just go straight to selling my next round of models, rather than post them on MW.
About 20 boosts and 150-200 points daily on average. I’m not on the top side, I have seen another designer almost 350 boosts already.
What is your profile name on MW?
The damage won’t be quite so great. They will keep some designers on the platform, there are tools for this, such as recommended designers and invitations to the in-house affiliate programme, through which selected designers can earn additional money by selling via Bambulab’s shop.
I receive about 5-10 per day. 1.1k followers but I don’t think this matters too much. I have not received any boosts for recently uploaded models.
It is unclear to me if a “$1 value” is in local currency? AUD, CAD or USD?
It would be fun to get a boost (none received so far). If you have not given any out yet, feel free to throw one my way. I’ve given away the ones I got.
It is USD, and not even a full dollar, it is ~$0.89
It was quite clear to me what was meant:
With a boost, the person who receives it gets a gift card worth one dollar.
That’s the general understanding and that’s how it has to be. No ifs and no buts. Since “$” is generally equated with the US dollar, that’s exactly what it should mean. So you give someone a boost and they get a $1 gift card in return. This gift card has a code, just like any card you can buy for points. You can then use the $1 gift card in the Bambulab shop on your next purchase.
I find this quite simple.
One solution to getting folks to spend their tokens is to create an incentive for people to spend them. Right now, users can download models for free without needing to give anything in exchange, which is awesome for makers around the world.
My recommendation is to make spending a boost token allow the sender to gain 2 points and for the recipient to gain 13 points. This will incentive gives the sender about $0.16 of credit each week and 13 points to actual provide the designer with $1 credit.
Just another idea.
I think that the boosts are a really original idea but the users are indeed very confused about its purpose or why they should use them. I am sure that the team at Bambu lab is working to improve it.
